Cancellation of bridge to Singapore

(VERSI BAHASA MALAYSIA DI AKHIR ARTIKEL INI)

I have been asked to please expose all that I know about the misuse of the Rakyat’s money.

In response to the above request I would like to identify initially four of the instances where the Government of Dato Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has misused public money.

What I write here would not be based on speculation or suppositions or possibilities. They are the things which are public knowledge and can be verified.

I need to explain in detail. So I will deal with one subject at a time.

However, I list below the four specific instances;

1. The cancellation of the bridge to replace the Malaysian part of the Johore Causeway

2. The postponement of the double-tracking and electrification of the railway line from Johor Baru to Padang Besar

3. The sale of M.V. Agusta for one Euro

4. Wang Ehsan which has been expended on Terengganu which the new Menteri Besar claims is not Wang Ehsan but Federal Fund.

Cancellation of the Bridge to Singapore

The Singapore Government had not objected to the building of the Malaysian bridge to replace the Malaysian half of the causeway.

This bridge would be 25 metres above the water to allow for small ships to pass through after removal of the Malaysian half of the causeway. The Second Link is also 25 meters above the water surface. So the vessels can pass through the Tebrau Straits without obstruction by the causeway.

This bridge is very essential as the traffic in Johor Baru has increased and there is a permanent traffic jam caused by the North-South flow to and from the causeway and the East-West flow between the Eastern and Western parts of Johor Baru. An elevated road is needed to be built above the East-West traffic for access to and from the causeway. Such a road would result in a part of the Johor end of the causeway becoming useless as the elevated road must land some distance from where the causeway joins the mainland.

A full-length bridge to Singapore would enable a gradual rise for lorries to climb and boats to pass underneath after the causeway is removed. Since Singapore refused to jointly construct a straight bridge to replace the causeway, a bridge with 25 meters clearance for boats to pass has got to be long enough for lorries to make a gradual climb.

The answer was to lengthen the bridge by a curved design. As for the railway line a swing bridge can be opened or closed for ships or trains to pass through.

To cut a long story short work on the curved bridge was stopped so that Dato Seri Abdullah’s Government could offer to sell 1 billion cubic metres of sand, and overflight rights for Singapore military aircraft over Johor Baru if Singapore agreed to a straight bridge.

Someone stood to make a lot of money selling 50 million cubic metres of sand per year for 20 years to Singapore for land reclamation. This was a very attractive offer as the reclaimed land can sell for 3,000-5,000 Singapore dollars (about RM6,000-RM10,000) per square metre. The Singapore Government stood to make an enormous amount of money selling this land.

They therefore agreed to the straight bridge. That dredging sand from the seabed would cause erosion of the coast, destruction of fish breeding grounds and deprive Johore fishermen of their livelihood were not of concern to the Government of Dato Seri Abdullah.

Fortunately the Johor people misbehaved.

They objected to selling sand and overflights.

Abdullah frustrated that his scheme was blocked then punished the Johore people by cancelling the bridge project altogether. No straight bridge, no curve bridge either.

The result is that more than RM1 billion have been wasted building the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) facilities, foundation and work on a new railway station, pilings and preliminary works on the road linking the CIQ to the bridge and compensations to the contractors because of the cancellation of the projects.

The CIQ building is now a white elephant, unused and yet have to be maintained costing hundreds of thousands of Ringgit a month.

Clearly Dato Seri Abdullah has wasted public money. All because he was angry with the Johor people for not enabling one billion cubic metres of sand to be sold to Singapore and the profits thereof.

Pembatalan Jambatan Bengkok

Bagaimanapun saya senaraikan empat perkara spesifik;

1. Pembatalan pembinaan jambatan menggantikan tambak Johor di sebelah Malaysia

Jangan tunggu sampai tergadai maruah bangsa baru nak menitis air mata.

Syabas Ayahanda Tun.

TUN,

Hi and how're you doing??

Firstly I would like to congratulate for exposing the cause of "behind the scene" about the curve bridge (jambatan bengkok)

I think the reason you proposed that bridge to build is for the sake of Malaysian benefit/advantage.

Secondly, is the advantage for Tanjung Pelepas to gain control of ship that pass through Strait of Melacca.

Thirdly, to overcome jams and any othe obstacles interms of economic matters.

Forth, to stop the reclaimation of land by the Singaporean.

Fifth, for malaysian to gain control in shipping industry as it will boost up our economy parallel as singapore as they too "master" in shipping industry.

Sixth, to upheld and hold up our dignity (malaysia/malaysian)

(Others please add...thanks (cont)

Im very dissappointed that after 50 years of independent and prosperity our country was bombarded with economy downturn and also has to bow to tiny little dot dragon country such as singapore.

We have to admit and allow singapore to "tell us what to do and what not to do.." May I ask where is our dignity as an independent country??

Because of BEING TO TOLERATE that is why others step our head like nobody's business..I hope that the current government realise this.

I think the Iskandariah project is favor to Singaporean not the Malaysian. The cost of purchasing the LAND/Buildings/infrustucture at Iskandariah causes A BOMB to all malaysian- not just the chinese business man but to all MALAYSIAN.

Once the Iskandariah KICK OFF- there goes another of our DAULAT.. As you all know Singapore will sneak their authorisation towards Iskandar City as because they want to protect their interest there. Then we can see alot of singapore GI's and spies roaming around our Beloved State of Johore.

..and for all you know in the end of the they- the singaporean might claimed Iskandar as part of singapore's sovereignty!! Hahahah

We all know the reason for Iskandar existence is to combat Singapore for furthering their reclaimation of land. Therefore, that is why we SANGGUP to give part of Johore for singapore to build their business EMPIRE..

Hahahha..then we all thought that once Iskandar project fullfilled- we all can get JOB??? Huhuhuh hahahah we be ALIEN at Iskandar eventho its part of MALAYSIA..

Dear Tun,
Firstly , thank you for another behind-the-scene account on what actually happened with regard to the Bridge issue. And the bridge design looked quite interesting actually. Secondly, The nation needs to gather a momentum to start a Royal Commission and probe AAB and his koncos on all their wrongdoings... take care!

YAB Tun,

I have been reading and come to same conclusion as you mentioned from day one when they cancelled the bridge.

Few questions remain in my mind still.

How come everyone in the Cabinet can allow this to happen?

How come UMNO members do not see this and if they do why do they allow this clearly stupid decision to take place?

Thanks Tun.

Good Day Tun,

I am Kent from KL. This is my first attempt leaving comment on Tun post after been reading it since Tun started to blog. I won't have high expectation that this comment will be read by Tun after there are more than 400 comments posted but I do have a question in my head that I hope somehow will be answered by Tun.

The opposition often link the BN government with cronyism. Rumors said that the current government biggest crony is SCOMI group which is owned by the very own son of Pak Lah. Thus, it is said that this is one of the many reasons why corporation like YTL failed to get contract of public project such as Penang LRT or the proposed bullet train from Singapore to KL. There are rumor claims that sooner or later (perhaps couple of years later), the government will build a bullet train from KL to Singapore but with their own "abang-adik" getting the tender.

I do not know how true is the statement above and dare not to make public post on how much I believe in it because nowadays it seems like blogger can get jailed easily (e.g. Raja Petra).

I would like to seek Tun opinion on regards of this "rumors" that have been spreading around.

Thanks

Regards;
Kent

Dear Johorean,

Make sure that Pak Lah will not persuade the Sultan of Johor and The Menteri Besar of Johor to sign any documents that will cause your territory to be manipulated by the Singaporean.

By the way does any one of you knows what is LKY and The General next plan?

Dear Tun,

Pak Lah is grossly stupid for cancellation of the building of the bridge. He is so short sighted never want to think further the long term economic effect of having the bridge. He never realise that the gain in the economic spin off activities in Johor Bahru far outweight the costs of building the bridge.
I just take one good example of the economic gain,i.e. in respect of the development of the coastal Straits of Tebrau in our territory that could be converted as a supply base station for those rich and famous people all over the world to have their luxurious yacht moored in Johor Bahru instead of going to through Singapore.
By having this activity, JB could develop its high end service industry such as tourism and development of high quality real estate to cater for these rich and famous people.

These are some of the multiplier economic effect that could be reap and now we lost it totally.

BN has done very small favours for the johoreans. Despite the fact that johoreans are very loyal to BN, this is not appreciated.

NO LRT OR COMUTERS built for the johoreans, the cancellation of jambatan bengkok (and now the lurus one too), create Iskandariah but to be given it's 'sovereignty' to the Singaporeans.

Please tell me, how many humiliations would the current gov wanna do to Johore? When I moved to JB five years ago my parents were struggling to find a good international school which provides a high standard of british education since i was a student of an international school, but to our disappointments there were no PROPER international schools in JB.

The present government better do something and appreciate Johoreans more, because UMNO was born in JOHORE and johor THUS FAR in my humble observation is still loyal to the present government. BN, you need JOHORE to save you for the next election.

Assalamualaikum
Tun, semalam saya bermimpi. Sebab mimpi ni lah saya tergerak hati nak bagi komen atas coretan Tun . Sebelum ini saya tak pernah terlepas setiap atikel Tun. Saya bermimpi, Yang Berbahagia Tun duduk semeja dengan Pak Lah minum ais kacang kat kedai BamBoo pekan Rabu. Dok sembang pasai BANGSA MELAYU.
Nak pi mana?" Si anak jawab....."jom la". "Kalu nak pi dok dekat meja tu, ayah tak mau la", jawab si ayah.
Si anak jawab balik...."Jom kita p surau kat tepi tu, buat sujud syukur dan minta doa kat Allah semoga kita bersatu kembali".
ADIK TENGOK LA www.chedet.com.
Maaf Tun.
Tapi itulah hakikat sebenarnya.
Tanya lah rakyat Msia........orang dewasa laa. Kalau diberi pilihan, memang semua nak Tun kembali menerajui Malaysia.
Tun........
Siapa itu Kalilmullah? Maaf atas pertanyaan saya ini. Apa hubungan dia dlm politik negara?
Maaf sekali lagi tun

Persoalannya, apakah perlu menang hujah hingga akhirnya maruah dijaja. (Maaf saya tak layak hendak menegur, cuma pandagan).

Akhir kata, maaf sekiranya terkasar bahasa.

To Mr Loh.
Sorry, i would like 2 comment"your comment" published Jun 9, 2008.

The Tun Salleh Saga - an open reply to Dr Mahathir

Dr Mahathir, I read with considerable interest your blog on the Tun Salleh Saga. To a certain degree, I must confess, I am happy for you have obviously regained your memory after having a momentary lapse of the same during the proceeding of the Royal Commission on the Linggam tape.

I must confess that I was not moved to post anything about the Tun Salleh issue as everybody and his dog has apparently written about it. However, after having read your latest boot-leg version, I am compelled to write this reply, just to put things on record and proper perspective.

It is quite obvious that you have mastered the fine art of manipulation. When everything else fails, what better than to stoke racial sentiment in order to gain support. That was what you were doing in Johore Bahru recently when you quite irresponsible pointed out that the Malays are the ones who would lose out if the IDR project were to continue. You than quickly followed it up in Japan when you reminded the Malays to unite and be strong because, according to you, other races are now asking for many things and questioning Malay rights. Samuel Johnson's "patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel" would normally be a cliche to repeat, but in your case, I would make an exception. Just change the word "patriotism" to "racialism" and you would, hopefully, catch my drift.

When the issue of an apology to Salleh Abas was started by Zaid Ibrahim, I remember you were quoted as saying that Salleh Abas was sacked by the tribunal and so an apology should be sought from the tribunal. How very convenient of you DrM. Of course you had conveniently overlooked the fact that the tribunal was established at your advice as the then Prime Minister. And so now, in your blog, you have revealed the truth. The truth, according to you, is that the King had wanted Salleh Abas be removed because His Majesty was angry with Salleh Abas' letter complaining about His Majesty's renovation work. So, are you now blaming the King, may I ask?

That is the first question which came across my mind while reading your post. The second question is this. Since when have you become a royalist so much so that you were almost paralysingly subservient to the King? The King had wanted Salleh Abas, the Lord President, sacked because of a letter over some noises made in a renovation work, and you followed it up with a tribunal established under our primary law, the Federal Constitution? You wanted us to believe that you, the then Prime Minister, the very same Prime Minister who amended the Federal Constitution to curb the powers of the King and the Malay Rulers, had agreed to establish the tribunal at the behest of the King? Since when has Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the fearless Prime Minister, who took away the necessity for Royal assents to any bill of law before it could effectively be the law of the country by amending the Federal Constitution, had suddenly be so subservient to the King in relation to the sacking of Salleh Abas?

The third question is glaring to people in the know. It is of course not there for every supporters of yours to see, as we could well surmise from the majority of the comments made in your blog on the issue. The question is this. Why was it that Salleh Abas was not charged over THAT letter? If what you said was true, why wasn't Salleh Abas charged for writin such a letter to the King and carbon copying it to all the Rulers? WHY? If the King had wanted Salleh Abas sacked for being rude to His Majesty, why is it that Salleh Abas not charged for being rude to our King? W.H.Y.??? Why is it that only now, 20 years later, suddenly, this letter has appeared and become an issue? Is it a case of you forgetting about that letter in 1988, just as you have forgotten about some events during the Linggam tape hearing, and suddenly rediscovering your memory last week about the same letter? Coincidently, your former secretary, Matthias Chang, has spoken about this letter in his blog sometime in the past weeks. Coincidently, I wrote.

By the way, during the constitutional crisis caused by your beligerent attitude towards the King and the Malay Rulers, I remember the state mass media, the newspapers and RTM, had even belittled the King and the Malays Rulers. The whole propaganda machines were used to smear the King and the Malay Rulers. Pictures of their palaces and mansions were shown on TV and in the newspapers. Stories about their wrongdoings were splashed in newspapers. Even Sultan of Kedah's house in Penang did not escape your propaganda machine. RTM would proceed to air old Malay movies about how stupid the Malay Rulers in ancient days were. Films like Nujum Pak Belalang, Hang Tuah and Dang Anum were aired just to shape the people's thoughts about how bad the King and the Malay Rulers were or could be. And yet, you now want us to believe that you were just doing what the King had wanted you to do by establishing the tribunal against Salleh Abas? Stretching your argument that Salleh Abas had to go because the King said so, why didn't you sack yourself, your whole cabinet and everybody else who had then partaken in the whole process of smearing the good name and dignity of our King and the Malay Rulers? Why only Salleh Abas?

DrM, sometimes, one's stupidity is most glaring in one's thought that everybody else is stupid!

You then mention in your blog that it was your opinion that Salleh Abas had committed wrongdoings and that he was not fit to be a Judge. If that was the case, may I respectfully ask why is it that you had not deemed it fit to establish a tribunal against a certain Lord President who was photographed with a certain lawyer oversea? Wouldn't that constitute a wrongdoing? That fact was, I am sure, known to you as it was widely discussed in the media during your premiership. It was even investigated by the ACA. Or how about the ACA investigation which showed that a certain lawyer had written a certain judgment for a certain Judge? Wouldn't that be a wrongdoing which would, if substantiated, render the Judge unfit to continue be a Judge? Why only Salleh Abas? Why not these Judges? Or is it a case of you having forgotten what they did just as you have forgotten several events during the Linggam tape proceedings, again?

You now charged, as you have always charged, that the judiciary, had interfered in the administration of the country. Your disdain for the law, lawyers and judiciary is well documented Dr M. I remember clearly in one speech, you liken the lawyers to vultures. But of course, you would now say it was all in jest. Your contempt for the law and judiciary, every time the judiciary made a decision against you or your government is almost peerless. You would deem such decision as interference with the administration. Although you know that the administration consists of 3 different, but essential, arms, namely, the legislature, executive and judiciary, you failed miserably to understand their respective functions and duties. The phrase "check and balance" was missing from your administrative dictionary which was probably reprinted with an express instruction from you to delete the same.

Thus, history will show that you were so upset and angry with the judiciary that you had instigated another Constitutional amendment to take away "judicial powers" from the judiciary! May I point out Dr M, that Malaysia, would be the only country in the whole Commonwealth ( I say Commonwealth because I am not accustomed to non-Commonwealth systems) whose judiciary does not have judicial powers unless the legislature says so. Coincidentally of course, who controlled the legislature? That was, and I surmise, still is, your idea of a democracy.

Remember what I said above about stupidity? Let me repeat it. One's stupidity is most glaring in one's thought that everybody else is stupid!

You some what denies that the sacking of Salleh Abas had anything to do with the UMNO 11 appeal which was then fixed by Salleh Abas to be heard by a full bench of 9 Judges on 13.6.1988. Events will show, at least on a balance of probability, otherwise. Salleh Abas was served with a letter of suspension on 27.5.1988. Abdul Hamid Omar became the Acting Lord President. I will come back to this character later in this post. On that very day, namely, 27.5.1988, on which Salleh Abas was suspended, Abdul Hamid Omar, as Acting Lord President, acting without any application by any party named in the UMNO 11 appeal, adjourned the appeal to a date to be fixed later. Why? For what reason? Why the haste? Nobody knows. That appeal was later fixed for hearing on 8.8.1988 before only 5 judges comprising of 3 Supreme Court Judges, including Abdul Hamid Omar himself and 2 High Court Judges. Not 9 as originally fixed by Salleh Abas. How could a valid decision by a Lord President, which was made prior to his suspension, be reversed by an Acting Lord President is quite beyond me or my intelect to comprehend, let alone answer. And quite why the appeal was to be heard by a corum of 3 Supreme Court Judges and 2 High Court Judges, instead of all Supreme Court Judges, is also beyond my tiny brain's ability to understand. I am sure you wouldn't remember this fact Dr M. Otherwise, I am sure you would have stated it in your post. I am sure.

If the sacking had nothing to do with the UMNO 11 appeal, why, may I ask, is that the first official act of the Acting Lord President was to postpone the hearing of that particular appeal? Why did he then proceed to overturn a valid act of the Lord President, who was then still a Lord President, albeit the fact that he was suspended? Why?

Salleh Abas made a statement to the press after his suspension. In the statement, he alluded to a meeting on 25.5.1998 with you, in the presence of the Chief Secretary, Salehuddin Mohamad, where you allegedly told him (Salleh Abas) that he was to be removed because, among others, of his bias in the UMNO 11 appeal. Salehuddin Mohamad was a witness at the tribunal. He said he was taking notes during the said meeting. While he could remember writing down only 2 matters in the note book during the meeting, namely, Salleh Abas' speech and his letter to the King (about your attack of the judiciary and not about the renovation issue), he only managed to say that he cannot remember that you had mentioned the UMNO case during the meeting when asked by the tribunal members. If he was so sure that he only took down notes about the aforesaid 2 matters in his notebook, why then he could not EXPRESSLY deny that you had mentioned about the UMNO case during the said meeting? Why can't he remember? And, in a show of embarrassing shallowness on the part of the tribunal, it FAILED to ask Salehuddin to produce the notebook! Why? It would appear that your Chief Secretary was clearly suffering from the same disease as yours namely, partial and momentary lapse of memory.

On the balance of probability therefore, your contention that the sacking of Salleh Abas did not have anything to do with the UMNO case under appeal is flawed, to say the least. Why don't you state all these facts in your blog Dr M? And let the people who read it to judge the matter after having been fed with al relevant facts. Not with facts which you think are relevant. Not with facts which you choose to remember for your own purpose and objectives.

I have reserved my comment about Abdul Hamid Omar. Now is the time form me to say something about him. This was the man who was effectively Salleh Abas' subordinate. He became Acting Lord President when Salleh Abas was suspended. He was also next in line to be the Lord President, in the event Salleh Abas was sacked. History will show that he did replace Salleh Abas after his sacking. How could he then head the tribunal? He was obviously conflicted out from being in the tribunal. Justice must not only be done, but must also be seen to be done. Haven't you heard of that? Or have you forgotten about it? Or is it a case that you did not really care?

Salleh Abas was then charged, among others, for writing a letter to the King dated 26.3 1988. For the benefit of those readers who don't really know the facts, this was not the letter complaining about the renovation. As I had said it, the renovation letter was never mentioned in any of the charges. The letter dated 26.3.1988 was a letter by Salleh Abas to the King to inform the King that Dr M had been attacking the judiciary. I will not touch on the merit or demerit of this letter. But what Dr M had failed to realise, or rather, what Dr M had ignored was the fact that this letter was written by Salleh Abas after all the Judges had a meeting on 25.3.1988. Even the Chairman of the tribunal, the aforesaid Abdul Hamid Omar, was present during the said meeting. In more ways than one, the said letter was a collective result of the Judges' meeting, including that of Abdul Hamid Omar, the Chairman of the tribunal. Two questions arise here Dr M. Firstly, stretching your contention that Salleh Abas had to be removed because of that letter as well as the renovation letter to its own logical conclusion, why didn't you suspend all the Judges who attended the meeting of 25.3.1988 and institute the same proceeding, with a view of dismissing all of them? That would be its reasonable conclusion as the letter was a collective result. Secondly, how could Abdul Hamid Omar, be a part of the tribunal, let alone its Chairman when he was obviously a potential witness? But then again, the 2nd question is borne out of a legal point, and so I don't expect you to understand it, let alone grasp it.

Allow me to also set out the exact facts and events around the same time Salleh Abas was charged. In 1986, you, as Home Minister cancelled the work permit of 2 Asian Wall Street Journal journalists in Malaysia. They brought the matter to the Court and the Supreme Court held that your action was illegal and therefore invalid. You were upset. IN TIME magazine (issue of 24.11.1986), you expressed your displeasure. Contempt proceedings were brought against you by the opposition. You escaped as the proceedings were dismissed by the Court. However, the learned Judge remarked in his judgment that you were confused at the doctrine of separation of powers. Later, in a speech to law students, the same Judge said that the process of appointing senators should be by way of an election. You mistook, as usual, this speech as a challenge and interference in politics when all the learned Judge was doing was expressing his own personal opinion over a matter which was not entirely political but also legal as well. Of course you then had to accuse "certain Judges" as interfering with politics. You then began a series of unwarranted attacks against the judiciary at a level and intensity as yet unseen in Malaysian history. What would you do if you were Salleh Abas, the Lord President? Take all the attacks lying down while waiting for pension?

You failed to appreciate his duty as the Lord President. He was the chief of the judiciary, an essential branch of the country's administration system. AS much as you were the head of the executive, so was Salleh Abas the head of the judiciary. He had to defend the very institution which he then headed. He convened a meeting of Judges on 25.3.1988 and collectively they decided to write a letter to the King about all the attacks leveled against the judiciary. What was so wrong with that? Why, you wanted him to lodge a police report over the matter?

By the way, in the present climate when every other Malay politicain is trying to be more Islam than every other Malay and his pussy cats, you of course forgot to mention one of the charges against Salleh Abas in your blog for obvious reason. The charge was that Salleh Abas had advocated the acceptance of the Islamic legal system in Malaysia and had re-stated the law along Islamic legal principles with against the multi-racial and multi-religious character of our country. Why didn't you mention this in your blog? You forgot? Or is it simply a case of you being afraid of losing the Malay support among your Malay readers if that was published by you in your blog?

Dr M, I am not your supporter. Nor am I Anwar Ibrahim or Abdullah Badawi's supporter. I am a supporter of truth. In this matter, nobody would know the truth. But if you are persuading people that your version is the truth, I would at least, expect you to lay out the whole story. And let the people, and history, be the judge.

Do you know what the beauty of the Common Law (which we practise)? The beauty is that it is a set of law common to all the people. That means, when a matter is wrong or right, ultimately, the common people would know. The common people. Me, and your readers.

Kind regards,

Art Harun

Assalamualaikum Tun,

Since it is the first time I've ever posted on your blog, being a Malaysian I'd like to extend my sincerest gratitude.

I'd like to thank you for all the effort you have put in to make Malaysia what it is today under your leadership, providing the platform for people like me to prosper. We were truly blessed to have had you as Prime Minister.

My take on the situation is simple when arrogance blinds judgement, stupidity will flourish.

I believe Pak Lah is a nice man with an ego bigger than the US deficit. His temporary outcast during your leadership has fuelled this trait. He believes he has put in the time and effort, hence deservingly is now PM. Unfortunately, he has no doubt failed as a leader. His denial to address the importance of a stable ruling coalition party will most definitely crush UMNO and BN, with the applause from the opposition echoing through the corridors of our parliament.

With the price increase of basic neccesities and purchasing power stagnant, the level of dissastisfaction on the streets now is at an all time high.
People are reaching for change, for the sake of change. Anything must be better than this.

Enter the political wizard from the past, Saudara Anwar or Dato Seri or whatever this chameleon wants to be called. His relentless threats of forming an alternative govt in unstable times clearly shows that he will work with the devil to become PM. A fact, in all your wisdom, you knew a decade ago. A fact I'm only beginning to see.

I am still hopeful someone will emerge to bring back the stability we have always enjoyed under the Malaysian flag.

Again Tun, I'd like to thank you.

A personal study was made by a blogger way back in July 2006.
It was concluded that when there was 2 options (Build With out concession -BWO or not to build Status Quo) the option to build was a clear option because of the Benefits/Costs. After a delay of many months, Singapore had managed to put a third option, BWC - Build with Concession, the Status quo was a better decision, exactly what PL did. Salam Tun,

i'd probably seem to have been a bit ignorant on all this bridge matter, but i'm sure i'm not the only one. if it weren't for Tun's explanations here, i wouldn't have known why the bridge would've been built crookedly. clearly Tun is and has always been the type that would take 'no' for an answer - not from ANYONE in this world. such a STRONG leader is dearly missed by this country. well we can wait, but i think we won't be seeing the likes of Tun Dr Mahathir to efficiently lead this country for a long looong time.

Paling terbaru, kes Pulau Batu Putih, kenapa ungkapan " kita perlu terima apa saja keputusan mahkamah, kalau kita kalah, nak buat macam mana'"....KENAPA TAK APALAH, TAK APALAH!!??

Sooner or later, Pak Lah akan terima padahnya. Zaman sekarang Allah sudah balas dengan "CASH"!

Again, you enjoy bashing SIN. Even a layman like me can see it is quite of odd to have a crooked bridge and yet, you insist to have it built. Pak Lah did the right thing to cancel this silly project of yours. For SIN, there is no gain to have a new bridge and it makes sense to ask for something in return, the sand and the air space in this instance. I can see the cancellation of the bridge hit you more than anyone else. The contract you had passed while you were the PM now rendered null & void, of course you are furious about it. Continue to attact Pak Lah's policies only invite more worms in the cans that are related to you. Who is benefiting? Of course, your nemesis, Anwar Ibrahim and when he becomes the PM, I think by then, you will be 'shivering' in your pants.

Kerana jambatan bengkok mendatangkan ilham menjual roti canai bengkok.

Adakah anda pernah makan roti canai bengkok?? mustahilkan, mungkin anda tidak percaya roti canai bengkok akan dipasarkan di The LOAF ( kedai roti milikan Tun)

Kenapa Tun tidak jual makanan melayu seperti ketupat? roti jalal, lemamg satay, nasi lemak??? di Loaf, padahal dasar Pandang ketimur masih dilancarkan, kononnya ajak Melayu makan roti Jepun.

Hairan saya jarang nampak Tun memakai songkok ???

Memang pun roti canai berbentuk bulat, pusing macam mana pun nampak bulat. asalkan orang caya tak perlu guna otak fikir.

DBKL mestinya
1) Surat permohonan dan plan
2) kalau tengah bina bagi surat warning DBKL,
2) Kalau terus bina tanpa permohonan, maka robohkan saja

- Sentiment

Raja Bengkok
Tun adalah Sentiment !! Tun adalah pakar sentiment. Kerana kepentingan Tun sendiri, Tun jadi sentiment! Kekecohan tun terhadap jambatan bengkok bukanlah apa.... sebab lepas bersara, Tun tiada pendapatan untuk support kuncu kuncunya yang begitu banyak, maka derhakalah kuncu kuncunya. Memang Tun seorang gentlement, tetapi kekurangan duit adakan memusnahkan segala galanya empayarnya.

Jadi Lepas bersara, duit kurang, power kurang, semuanya kurang inilah sebabnya Tun marah marah , bertubio tubi hentam kerajaan

Semoga Tun sekeluarga sihat selalu.

Assalamualaikum Tun,

He's paying the price of your past follies.

Wise up old man.
You have retired.

For the sake of Malaysia and future generations of Malaysians; please stay RETIRED

and let Pak do his job - CLEAN up this country.

*To other fellow malaysians, i know its tough with the inflation + petrol $$$ increase; but before you start blaming others...please look around.

High inflation is affecting the ENTIRE world.

Our government subsidies were one of the highest in the world - and you think all subsidies are FREE ?!?!?!?!

It came from OUR taxes, from the government, from MALAYSIA! $$$ of which can always be put into better use (i.e. education/economy) rather than wasting it on petrol subsidies!!!

Think about it, its jolly high time; we as malaysians stand up and take care of ourselves.

STOP expecting the government to SPOON-FEED you.

LEARN to feed yourself, learn to be independent and stand up proud amongst our international peers.

I strongly believe that we, Malaysians, will overcome this and surpass ourselves to GREATER heights.

MALAYSIA BOLEH!

Assalammualaikum Tun,

Pak Lah decision to cancel the crooked bridge was rather shocking as he and a number of his ministers announced that the construction of the bridge would proceed with or without consent from Singapore.

When the bridge was canceled, the excuses that came out of his mouth were unbelievable; Johoreans did not want the crooked bridge and there would be legal implications with regards to the relocation of the water pipes along the causeway.

The government went on their limbs through the Information Ministry and published a booklet to "explain" the cancellation of the bridge by giving half truths that suited their needs to justify the cancellation decision.

Personally, the bridge would be a national symbol and pride that can galvanize the future generation in terms of being an independence and sovereign nation.

Sadly, Pak Lah pulled the plugs on the half completed projects which have already incurred hundreds of millions in construction costs. To make matter worse, the decision was made not due to any hardball or arm twisting by Singapore, but by the not able to sell off the country.

Since they could not make money from the selling of sands, Pak Lah and Gang decided to launch his first corridor, the South Johor Economic Corridor - Wilayah Pembangunan Iskandar - Iskandar Malaysia, which was not much different from South Johor Economic Corridor which was initiated during Tun's time in line with the construction of the bridge.

Pak lah even got the chic to say that "This is my idea." during one of his press conference when asked about the then South Johor Economic Corridor.

Well, I guessed by now the rakyat is well aware that nothing good had ever came out of Pak Lah's mouth with regards to the well being of 26 millions Malaysian citizen.

Well done Tun, please continue to be the voice of the rakyat as we did not any platform to raise our concern with regards to deterioration in the social and economic well beings. We hope that Tun would not mind if we were to piggy back on Tun's blog and platform in bringing in a positive change towards our beloved country.

Dear Tun,

BUILD SCENIC BRIDGE OR BUY 2 SUBMARINE

One pattern in ABB administration show consistent in challenging Tun is whatever you did before, he will overturn it opposite, good or bad, he opposed completely by his term. Look at what he decided from Tun legacy, As soon ABB took over MOF,He start to cancelled almost all mega projects Tun implemented after step down, call for a better efficient open tender to review most projects given by Tun, convinced the public how so many special design & build projects awarded without tender, not need to negotiate price. He clean up a projects syndrome where it use to awarded to UMNO related company, or big shot of UMNO or company favor political Tansri,Dtk,MP,YB. ABB did cut off most budget for RM 8 deflexed rakyat to see how wasteful Tun have done to MOF as PM and also finance minister, indirect created a bad image with unquestionable indirect corrupt practice that overspend (Petronas) rakyat money. He insisted to review this projects as too wasteful could incurs hugh deficit in MOF.

2004 election ABB implement new hope for Malaysian, claiming will clean up the ill rotten corruption in government agency. Polis department stressed, so call himself MR CLEAN nice guy, this eventually sell off after PR 11, he did order ACA to pick up 1 of former Tun favor minister close friend , a MP from Sabah, in which charged for corruption. From that day on, Malaysian gave him 90% votes of trust living a hope having a good clean PM new start, clean up what Tun legacy have build of 22 years, and media did well covered and successfully painted ABB a Mr Clean PM local and international claiming will change all oppose ill corruption, cronies, nepotisms under Mahathir raja era. It goes well till 2005 and rakyat believed ABB is good, better, clean, honest PM created by TUN in legacy.

The cancellation of crooked bridge was the turning point of Mr Clean made wrong move, political or economically view of this scenic bridge created big attention between Singapore Malaysia, it was a slap direct on Tun face, media report telling that Johorian opposed it, say a crocked bridge lead nowhere, mislead rakyat it half hang way as Singapore will not open the link.ABB claim this 1 Billion mega project crocked bridge have created dispute tension between Malaysian and it neighbor Singapore are waste of (Petronas) rakyat money in economic point of view and order Gerbang Perdana not to continue. that is how Tun had come in openly try exposed what real behind the true, billions cublic of sand and airspace open in Johor for Singapore jet severance, and how the influence of KJ in TKT 4 powerful had high influential with SS Lee ,also the sale of Pantai holding,Telekom shares with t Temasik Holding controlled by SS Lee wife. With Tun gradually speak up the true, 1 by 1 media is ban to interview Tun speech, it spin by some doctor, ministers,YB,MP former old friend start to hide out ,even UMNO member not dare to see Tun, invitation for Tun to hold ceremah indeed interfered by top gun. As Tun continue to let public know what behind this slowly uncovered Proton,MV Agusta sale off ,who behind ECM Libya,Scomi, Penang mono rail ,Avenue Capital,Wang Insan ,Monsoon cup, and much more story of Khazanah GLC link company.

Now, let we say what if Tun is more right and ABB was bit wrong at a commercial point in argued cancellation of Scenic bridge. For 1billion to build it seem a wasteful a Hugh sum, but let see what this projects could bought the economical drive force for Johor, cost of 1b easily recovered with just charge RM 3 per private vehicle RM 10 for commercial truck pass through, is accountable up usage of 100,000.00 – 200,000 units dairy and more,10 of millions collected a month, easily to repay it finance cost at 100m per year, self substantial maintenance cost managing this scenic bridge with levy collected from ICQ department, Fee. money from this projects and can yield 50-100 millions a years depend how it be operated with good system. A scenic bridge is never a waste project, It open new passage between two country with more speed up, will attract more tourists flow, a alternative way visit Malaysia, boom tourism especially direct impact for Johor all business sector grow, attract possible billion of new indirect investment opportunity.

Also look into it 25m bridge new high can allow small cruiser ship, cargo, barges yacht to make short cut direct rather another 80KM plus if turn round Singapore, this benefit Johor coast boost instant in shipping industry as well new tourism for ship stop over, as now all ship forced to dog in Singapore in monopoly collecting strategy commercial benefit .In environmental view, it gave a natural flow of sea wave cleaning up present costal bridge seal most underneath stuck for old dated bridge design 80 years ago.
And most crucial in my opinion about safe guard of our border with Singapore for navy base marine arm force ship sailing within the small strait across 2 country. Is a high strategic idea for country defend after this scenic bridge build, it reopen up a dead strait in and all our navy ship need not sailing over Singapore from west coast to east . I would see is more Malaysia ministry of defend could safe guard Johor without any interference of military protocol order by sailing over Singapore within international water. The claim of Singapore jet into Johor space could not arise at all if not because of billions cubic of sand business propose by ABB crony in first place. By cancellation of the bridge, the potential new military defend strategy strong zone is lost or unavailable as planned, whereby why Tun is always claim under saying in his speech – KEDAULATAN NEGARA KITA TELAH HILANG .

If ask my self opinion now after fuel hiked :

The cost of 2 submarine bought by minister of defend is 1 billion, equal to 1 crook bridge, it bought for a defend budget in which true is this submarine never yield any return,0 it cost +500m maintenance by a well know company a hot topic mention in recent parliament debate, might never need to surface up sleep under the sea only, that gone 1 billion, throw inside Malaysia sea as weapon in today world more on standby or show off the neighbor. That is what once of 1 billion does Malaysia have invested, no logic value in commercial, might ever use at all till became junk metal in decade. If this submarine to be bought priority let say is need to survey movement intelligent military ship in Singapore , then crooked bridge idea did gave extra bonus economically plus military defend advantage with the same cost investment of 1 B. That what fact about part of cost to maintaining country defend, a hidden gain for Malaysia advantage over water border argument with Singapore.

Now. after world oil hike crisis, at US 140 per barrel, steel bar in 2005 cost less RM 2000 per ton, now over RM 4000,all building material go up 200 plus %,if 1 billion Tun cost did took place smoothly and build this scenic bridge, we save another 1.5 b compared now cost like 2.5b.it cost same effect for Penang 2nd bridge, up after slow in action ABB policy, that what cost for saving billions under flip flop policy indeed cost another billions lost for late confirmation for solid implementations of mega projects ,by review ,KIV, open tender system without a overall complete solution rather cancelled it as any mega Tun idea is waste of rakyat ( Petronas ) money.

What Tun had put in to implement mega scenic bridge project had turn into a crooked bridge by ABB media when in power, later turn into a straight bridge of ABB new approach more friendly relation toward SS Lee. The relation of both country rebuild under influence could be from KJ friends, KJ friends want good tide between both country which Tun long destroyed over water issue , and promised a straight bridge cost cheaper, important whole new proposal match Mr Clean name – Straight Bridge versus Tun – Jambatan Bengkok. That how our media use to put it, and Gerbang Perdana too subjected as how Tun and his crony run the show, a little off course in behind award without tender, design curved tell that character of corrupt practice? After 2 years Tun had started openly defended his real motive intention for scenic bridge, telling ABB can review which ever projects he did implemented fairly if cost or practice should be fair can amounted to fair tendering system decide. but not this Scenic Bridge!

Reader.. you make the valuation of both PM of scenic bridge pros and cons in your opinion. Which is much wiser compared money spend or not here?

Dear Tun,

Pls dun mind if I say this. Everyone here in your blog are praising you…..but I gonna say this.

You have made mistakes during your time as a PM. However your right decisions made during critical times have gain merits for you, esp. true during year 1997 that you refuse to submit to IMF by locking exchange rates vs USD.

But your biggest mistake was that you step down on 2003 and chose a wrong leader for us, Malaysian. A very bland and not rakyat-conscious leader he is, leading BN to destruction as well as Malaysia.

Removal of subsidy is no doubt a good way to ease the pain of country reserves and by looking at international oil price, we rakyat can understand how subsidy effect our country’s financial status. However, handling of such matters has to be careful. One day telling you ban selling petrol at borders, then 2 days later remove it and implement price hike of 78 sens (petrol) and RM1 (diesel) is totally making us, the rakyat, wondering how the hell the decision concluded and call it off in just 2 days!!!

Is he trying to tell us ban selling petrol at borders is a wrong decision? Then why implement it in the first place? Now everything is in the move/swing to increase price. A plate of noodles has already increased 50 sens. Next will be massive transport fare. How about bread, rice, cooking oil, flour etc? Yes the items’ price may not increase, but how about the TRANSPORTATION charges in delivery those items? No increase? Who gonna bear it….we rakyat…sigh….

How wish you were still our PM……at least you can handle this issue more delicately…

Salaam Tun,

When I first started researching and reading up on the Jambatan Bengkok and its pic, I finally found it when I googled "breathtaking" bridge. That was when I found out how BEAUTIFUL the design of this bridge!!! It could have WON the most beautifully designed bridge (NOT TO MENTION THE CONCEPT AND REASON BEHIND IT!)if it is ever built!

It was classified under "breathtaking bridges" as in this website:
http://blog.miragestudio7.com/2006/08/breathtaking-bridges/

with the following quote:

"The idea behind a crooked bridge is to enable crago ship to sail underneath the bridge, bypassing Singapore port. Good idea, too bad they’re not building it."

Too bad we got a dendam kesumat, very dim and extremely flimsy and wishy washy PM at the nation's helm now ): If we toppled Dollah, we need to build the bridge to realize its beautiful vision of "makmurkan Malaysia dan kembalikan hak Johor sebagai pusat pedagang entrepot di rantau Asia".

All Dollah been doing since the first day he took over PM-ship is taking us BACKWARDS every day of the year! The rakyat really can't wait for the DAY Dollah is kicked out the Govt for good! He and his punahsihat2 are worse than "tikus2 mondok membaiki labu!" So that we can speedforward to Vision 2020.

Assalamualaikum Ybbhg Tun & family. May Allah swt bless you everyday.

Having read and informed the real story regarding scraping of the causeway bridge to Singapore, it is sad to know that the MPs or DUN elected by the PEOPLE have misused the power given. Instead of providing further development and modernisation, it is more of benefit to certain MPs or other parties rather than the RAKYAT!

Scraping that project was so unwise and shows the arrogance of PM. If certain people don't get any benefit from the side from it, so be it, NO ONE WILL GET IT!

I truly regret that these people are still in the government and taking care of our beloved Malaysia.

Even more regret, these people only think more of themselves rather than the RAKYAT! It seems when elected all promises that taking care of Rakyat is priority yet their stomach first RAKYAT comes second!

Thank you Tun for the detailed insight on the matter. Now the RAKYAT will truly understand more of the current government attitude toward the Malaysian people. I truly agree this information will definately give more understanding to the Malaysia all over.

Thank you again Yg bbhg TUN... wish you hadn't retired early. The country need someone with your insight and ideas rather than people like PM and his stooges now.

Assalamualaikum Tun...

Sekian Tun, Wassalam...

it is very vvvvvvvv sad, disappointed and heart-pain to know the 'true' like this. i really feel pain in the deep bottom of my heart, really...

i'm just like any other m'sian, who have to work very hard to get survive. we are far more not as rich as those-people, who have the authority to manipulate the property/assets of m'sia and make theirselves became rich.

if Dato Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi really b'cos of his own silly anger, and make this kind of decision, what else then can i say... i only know that, the money is not belong from his own grandmother packet, the money is from all the rakyat hardship blood money..

P/s: 1] my disappointment of the M'sia gov had already made me to work in other countries. Sorry for that, my negara. But, do think deeper what make the rakyat dont feel like contributing to their own country. sigh!!

2] perhaps, the value of rakyat like me is less than a biji of sand. that's why with/without me in M'sia, that isn't a different. perhaps, the m'sia gov will be more than happy without me in the country.

Tun,

No wonder S'pore Island is bloating now!!!

Tun,
I am always proud of you. I received a pat at the back by Korean when I had a businees trip during your tenure. The Korean commented that you have an appoinment with their Prime Minister related to Korean economic development. The Korean PM was looking at Malaysia as a model for economic development at that time and envied you as a man behind the success of Malasian economics. I believe, your success can be inherited and churned-up further. I believe the days will be back I belive in you. May god bless your truth and be with you.

Laporan sebuah akhbar:

Kerajaan Abdullah Badawi urustadbir wang royalti secara gelap
Intan Abdullah
Thu | May 15, 08 | 3:50:18 pm MYT

KUALA LUMPUR, 15 Mei (Hrkh) - Pesuruhjaya PAS Terengganu, Dato' Mustafa Ali mendakwa pengendalian Kerajaan Pusat pimpinan Perdana Menteri, Dato' Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi terhadap isu wang royalti dibuat dalam keadaan gelap.

Setelah kira-kira 100 hari Abdullah Ahmad Badawi terus kekal memimpin, namun namun isu Wang Ehsan jauh daripada selesai.

The rakyat should stand up.... The ministers should speak up. It is our money they are wasting. RM 1 Billion is a huge sum and we should spend it on more useful purpose.

Look at our land.... there is more and more uncomplete housing projects. Let's channel our funds there and let the poor benefit from it.

If the government do not do anything about this, there is a possibility our country will go down the drain.

Cheers.

Terima kasih

Hello Tun,

I must say that this exposure is too shocking and the people must not refrain from questioning Pak Lah's move in doing this.

I am particularly surprised that the individuals concerned hasn't said anything.

Assalamualaikum.

I read one of the comments from the readers previously saying that you were one of the people who designed the bridge. I wonder whether that's true. If it is, then you are surely an all-rounded person. You can be a succesful leader, a good doctor, an engineer. Alhamdulillah =)

Anyway, I always think that people with sciences background make the BEST LEADERS. Be it a doctor, an engineer or a physicist. and I'm pretty sure you think the same way too.

"the appointment of anyone but Idris Jusoh as Terengganu menteri besar is unconstitutional"

07. Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah sanggah kenyataan Abdullah Ahmad Badawi itu.

08. Kenyataakn Zaid Ibrahim yang dipetik sebagai berkata:
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, said the appointment of Datuk Ahmad Said as menteri besar of Trengganu should be withdrawn and replaced with that of Idris as required by law. Zaid, the minister in charge of legal affairs, said the impasse over the appointment of Ahmad against the objections of a majority of the state's assemblymen should not have arisen. He said, " It's important for everyone, including the monarch, to respect the law, and in this case the law is quite clear. The discretion of the monarch in appointing the menteri besar is not an absolute personal discretion."

Diikuti pandangan pakar, Prof Abdul Aziz Bari, dan Dr Shad Saleem Faruqi.

09. Serta kronologi peristiwa, dari 10 Mac 2008 hingga 23 Mac 2008:
http://malaysianunplug.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html

Siapakah dia (Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) nak menghukum rakyat Johor?

Dear Tun,

I am young and I know little about politics, but one thing that I am sure that is Singapore is intending to dos something. I am never fond of Singapore, one, because of their people - Some that I know is veryu racist and rude, and also because of the higher ups.

I still remember our late Tunku Abdul Rahman said on the day where Singapore is expelled from Malaysia, he, Tunku, said that Singapore would be 'duri dalam daging'. I still believed that Tunku's words is true, even till now.

Another thing is that I am somehow irritated with the actions of our Prime Minister now, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. I don't know why people would support him. For fame and power I assume? Then again, as a leader, they are supposed to think about the people. I wonder how can they be a leader.

Anyways, on topic, for one selling sands is not something we can easily do. They might use the sand to make something that can harm us in some. Perhaps making a military base for America? Who knows, Singapore is, an arrogant country.

And selling airways? They could even use it for the same reason above. It's like what happened to Palestine and Israel if I am correct. What was the word, neo-colonization, I think?

I think that Abdullah Ahmad Badawi have a big explanation to do.

Another thing, I heard that the Iskandar Project has something related to a propaganda made by Singapore and United Sates of America. Is it true? If you could, I humbly ask for your honest opinion Tun, perhaps even make a article about it at Che Det Blog.

Anyways, I wish that you would have a good health and always prosper.

Chaiyo said...

Rakyat terengganu dah lama tunggu lebuh raya pantai timur bila nak siap. Duit dah banyak habis buat mesjid begitu banyak tapi highway tak cukup baik utk ramai orang nak pergi.

sememangnya ia satu kerugian.. Keadaan persekitaran pun masih belum terurus. Masih kelam kabut.. Banyak duit dah abis..
