Malaysia is a country which practices the rule of law. Our laws must cover every aspect of our societal life, so we will know exactly what we can do and what we cannot do. Prime Ministers in particular must have everything spelt out for them in this respect. This will enable them to be charged if they had breached the rule of law long after they had retired.
Governments, serving Prime Ministers and Ministers are well placed to initiate action against others. But when the Government, the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister do something wrong, like cover-ups for example, then police reports may be made against them. But how can the person reporting be sure that the police will investigate without fear or favour.
I believe some reports have been made but so far there have been no results. Public confidence would be undermined if investigations by the proper authorities are not made. If the investigation is only to clear the name, then can we say the rule of law is being properly practised?
We therefore need to have more Royal Commissions manned by people of impeccable character like the ones on the Lingam tapes. The Commissions can then make proposals based on speculations and possibilities can then investigate the possibilities and probabilities and help clear those in power. When this is done we can say that this beloved country practises the rule of law.
Support you always Tun..

Berhenti kritik Mahathir, pujuk beliau kembali kepada UMNO, kata Shahidan
ReplyDelete24/05/2008 6:37pm
- Bernama
MASIH RAMAI YG SAYANG TUN
I disagree with your comment above that the rule of law should be there to govern ALL aspects of peoples lives. The rule of law is a set of codes which allow society to act in an organize and fair fashion. It should not be used to rule over people, that is tyranny! People should be allowed a certain amount of free expression and free choice set within these rules of law. As for the Malaysian rule of law, the problem as with so many other things in the country is not so much the rules but enforcement. And unfortunately, until we adopt a culture of transparency, meritrocacy and integrity, all these rules would just remain a pointless exercise in fultility.
ReplyDeleteAssalamualaikum Tun,

You can still change the world, Tun.

I agree with u Tun, I have personal experience when i made a report against an officer. Instead my family n I were jeapordised a better living n was treatened. I accepted the challenge coz I truly believe in ALLAH swt n we were never miss a plate of halal food though they tried.
ReplyDeleteWill always support u n pray for ur success in educating us rakyat with a more critical thinking rather lateral as expected by present leaders.
Dear Tun,
ReplyDeleteU are the PM throughout my tenure as a student from primary school to secondary school. My grandfather used to talk politics with my uncles when i played in front of them. I am working now, and i felt that u are the most accomplished leader of this country called Malaysia.
Dearest Tun,
ReplyDeleteYet another thoughtful post, although I hoped that you could write more about this issue on the 'Rule of Law'.
To be honest, i have lost all confidence in the government and those who are there to enforce the law. It seems that we are moving backwards i.e. back to the 'Rule by Law' system - authoritative, autocratic where those who govern are above the law...a situation exacerbated by the incompetence of law enforcers who seem to serve the government and not the people.
It's frustrating for me and I'm sure even more so for you, having built Malaysia for over 2 decades only to see things slowly crumbling.
Keep writing Tun!
Best,
Dian
assallamua'alaikum,
ReplyDeletewell agreed, tun.
....the police will investigate without fear or favour???
ReplyDeleteIf we are heading this direction, i won't be surprised an external third party will be policing us, bcoz all local police are corrupted in their duty.
I wish Tun can touch on Petrol prise issue. If our country is net exporter of oil, we are very very happy to see the oil price going up instead of look at our leaders now, they so worry. Just ask them a question, you prefer oil up or down as we are the net exporter?
ReplyDeleteOur revenue from oil increase even though we maintain our petrol at RM1.10 per liter.
I just don,t understand unless the goverment sell the oil at USD80.00 or lower and the goverment has to subsidised the petrol based on the current price which is USD134.00. I hope Tun can enlighten me/us as Tun was a in goverment before.
Thank you
Dear Tun,
ReplyDeleteI think not everbody understands the definition of the rule of law. I manage to find an article below wihich I extracted from the internet, Maybe this might help some of us to refresh what really the rule of law is all about:-
The 'Rule of Law'
by Bill Ross
The precise legal definition of “the rule of law” seems to have been “misplaced” by our “guardians of civilization” and lost in history. Current judges state: “I am the law,” implying that they are the beginning and end of authority, residing in their eminently trustworthy and infallible persons. Enough information is now available to re-construct the “rule of law” from the evidence.
Judges make the claim that they do what they do under authority of the “rule of law.” This means that judges admit that “the rule of law” actually exists and further admit they will not tell us what it is, by my lengthy and colossal failure to find a written and legally binding definition of the “rule of law” anywhere.
Judges further claim that their role is to serve as “guardians of civilization,” under the “rule of law” which means the law must have some measurable purpose and effect besides fattening the bank accounts of legal “professionals.”
The “rule of law,” by its very words implies that it is intended to replace or at least control the power of rulers and all of the problems associated with arbitrary rulers and the conflict of competition for the position of “ruler.” It also implies that it is not a mere replacement of rulers by another ruler class called “Judge,” since this is just a name change and solves no problems. If it means that the law is supreme and Judges are mere interpreters, this is just a shifting of arbitrary rule to those who make the laws. Even if the lawmakers are elected representatives of the people, this still does not solve the problem of the majority enslaving the productive, oppressing minorities and collapsing civilization. Therefore, the rule of law cannot be a mere shifting of power to any one group, including the majority, since this solves none of mankind’s organizational problems. The “rule of law” must be something different.
Given the fact that those who wield force under color of law are by definition numerically inferior (but better armed with weapons we have provided to them) to those who must tolerate their actions, the “rule of law,” to be useful must have some advantage able to achieve voluntary consent from a broad base of individuals who would otherwise organize to overthrow it like any other oppressive ruler throughout history.
To guard civilization, we must know what civilization actually is. We must know what is required for civilization to function. We must know what civilization should be guarded from. We need to know how success in protecting civilization can be measured.
Civilization is about the way mankind is organized. Since the organization of man is about individuals and groups interacting, we must consider the goals and motivations of the components in order to consider their organization. This is because there is no force in the universe able to enslave man by imposing an organization contrary to free choice. The definition of organization is: “the set of capabilities and boundaries of the parts and the rules governing relationships between the parts.”
The greatest threat to civilization is from the competition of individuals and groups trying to achieve dominance over other individuals and groups. This results in total conflict and the collapse of social organization, placing collective survival at risk. Thus, the purpose of “the rule of law” is to reduce conflict. We must understand what creates conflict in order to reduce it. The absence of conflict is peace and cooperation. Therefore civilization and the “rule of law” is about the rules by which we live in peace and cooperate with each other by the minimization of conflict.
The “rule of law” cannot leave any particular group in charge, since this group would ultimately enslave all others, as proven by historical experience. Since control of the law cannot be entrusted to some, it must be entrusted to all. Therefore, the “rule of law” must be a simple philosophical statement of what is justice and not justice easily understood and agreed to by all men. This allows all to see that the law is fair and ensure that justice is done, to guard against injustice. If all have fairness and justice, no honest man will desire conflict. The “rule of law” must also be the glue that ties all of mankind together in common interest, for mutual survival. Since this is the purpose of “the rule of law,” it must also be a moral statement that mankind’s overall survival is more important than some natural rights of inherently free men. Given that man’s second highest goal is freedom, the “rule of law” must limit freedom as little as possible, sufficient only to reduce conflict. If this were not the case, conflict would occur in pursuit of freedom.
The defining characteristic of any individual or group is the need to survive. To do so, goals must be achieved. In the seeking of any goal, there are only three possibilities. You can steal by force or fraud or you can trade value for value. There are no other possibilities. Since conflict is a consequence of forceful and fraudulent methods of goal seeking, these methods must be suppressed by law. These methods create conflict because they interfere with the survival of the victims, causing a defensive response. The only peaceful means of goal seeking is thus by mutually agreed trade.
To encourage mutually agreed trade, it must be un-coerced and people must be able to keep the fruits of their labors, or why bother? Trade reduces conflict further by virtue of the parties becoming interdependent and thus having an interest in mutual survival. Peaceful trade requires the law to treat all equally and property rights must be absolute.
The above conflict minimization and goal-seeking considerations results in a precise definition of “the rule of law”:
- “the suppression of forceful and fraudulent methods of goal seeking”
- “all are treated equally by the law.” This means ALL, including king and judges
- “absolute property rights”
Note that I use equality in the mathematical sense “in all dimensions.” The meaning of the key words have been obscured by an assault on language, to destroy the precision required for truth.
The above “rule of law” is what governments, judges and the legal profession have been hiding from us for centuries, while they and their cronies feed off of the conflict and human misery created by their illegal acts and divisive political philosophies. Mankind has long had this knowledge to create a better world for all and it is suppressed, for the profit of some. This suppression of truth is the greatest crime against humanity ever committed. It is an unthinkably evil crime. The unbelievable degree of evil and malice against mankind of this crime is the greatest defense of the perpetrators. These groups hypocritically claim to be acting in mankind’s interest. Unchecked, these crimes will drive mankind to extinction by war, civilizations or ecological collapse. Do not expect the legal profession to judge itself guilty in this or any other matter.
The “rule of law” is the highest law of mankind. All other laws are subservient and cannot contradict the “rule of law.” All laws contradicting this including constitutional are an offense to mankind’s collective survival and must be fought and destroyed. This most basic of laws is the highest intellectual achievement of mankind, the result of objective consideration of mankind’s goals, nature, environment, history and survival by the greatest and most objective minds mankind has yet produced. The “rule of law” is a profound truth which allows the most dangerous predator on the planet to live together in peace and harmony, cooperating for mutual self-interest and progress.
The above definition of the “rule of law” is fully consistent with what governments, judges and the legal profession pretend to be guided (but not bound) by. The fact that government and judges do not consider themselves bound by the “rule of law” allows them to remain in control, creating plausible “necessity,” “complexity” or “technicalities” of why they and their cronies are special and above the law, free to suck the life out of their fellow men. This allows them to keep all of us fighting each other by refusing true equality and tricking us into blaming and killing each other. They make us slaves to their will by denying our property rights and threatening seizure. This allows them to promise our productivity to others who refuse to choose personal responsibility or accept the consequences of this decision, buying political support at our expense and placing incompetents in democratic control. The chaos of usurped democracy provides confusion and cover while our civilization is looted and destroyed, for the benefit of the unscrupulous.
For their grand finale, they are steering civilization to a worldwide conflagration of war that can never, ever end until the human race is extinct. This is for the simple reason that we have been duped into thinking our survival depends on someone else’s exploitation. Our victims have responded by becoming what some call terrorist and I call freedom fighter. When justice is denied, conflict is the only survival option.
The absence of the “rule of law” also prevents serious international cooperation in the critical areas of pollution, global warming, renewable energy, economics and poverty. The most crucial foundation of civilization has been stolen and removed. As a consequence, civilization is toppling.
The “rule of law” is simple and unambiguous, making justice a simple matter with no special exemptions for anyone. Simply put, if any individual or group acts in a manner that creates conflict, then they are guilty and offend all of mankind. Any issue can easily be resolved by process of elimination. If it is not an honest, mutually agreed trade, then it is theft or fraud by definition. Since all are subject to this law, governments must also earn their keep and deal with each other and us in a non-conflictual manner. They will not do this willingly.
There is not a single problem of humanity that is not in some way related to the current and historical suppression of the “rule of law.” The fact that the powers that be claim it as a pretext and the sophisticated methods by which they create and profit from conflict is sufficient proof that they understand the behavioral principles involved and their peril if the “rule of law” ever returns.
Under the “rule of law,” honest men are in charge, with a simple and precise definition of what they should be doing. Democracy will be prevented from discriminating on any basis, ending divide and conquer politics, forcing voters to consider common interest rather than advantage over others.
The “rule of law” is brilliantly simple, just and well suited to all of mankind. The fact that western democracies once had prosperity, honesty, social unity and a work ethic argues that we once had the “rule of law” to which all honest men agreed, to the detriment of criminals. The fact that these values are under concerted attack by “Social Engineers,” creating conflict by pitting viewpoint against viewpoint is proof enough of who is responsible and that they know exactly what they are doing.
The resources we illegally spend on conflict and Third World predations, if redirected into education and honest trade, could easily solve world poverty and allow us to get on with the business of collective survival. It would free innovators to solve problems rather than defending their just rewards from predators with gavels.
The answer to the implied judicial question of “I am big, I have all the power and can do whatever I please, you cannot prove me wrong and what can you do about it?” is, You have just been proven wrong. You are big and will thus fall very hard and take many with you. If you are not forced to fall, you will take all of us with you when your offenses against natural law which is also man’s law collapses the civilization on which you prey.
The entire legal profession is profoundly wrong and an enemy of mankind. Who judges the judges? We do and I have. My role in this is done by publishing the proof of these crimes against humanity. Will we let civilization continue to absorb these predations and consequences until it collapses from the accumulated weight of our follies in tolerating this?

Salam Yg Bhg Tun,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on some points but how sure are you that if any report were to be made against the government, the Prime Minister or the Deputy Prime Minister, someone will take action on it?
Would the report be entertained by the police/authorities despite be given a no-go from the "higher" ranking officers?
We have come to know some cases that have been put aside although there's reports against it.
We have known some people who got away with things they have done against the law of the country and got away with it.
Law should be there to govern all aspects of people's lives and all type of positions and ranking. Otherwise, someone will always be above the law.

Public confidence is shown by the result of the election. The public has given big majority to Pak Lah in 2004 election that reflect the confidence. But 2008 election reflect the lost in confidence to Pak Lah. So why do we need to give him the support and retain him as the leader of Malaysian people.
ReplyDeleteBefore election, Pak Lah told the country that Malysia will not be affected by America's declining economy turmoil but why today he talk differently as if he forgotten what he told the people.
In the name of islam hadari, he should step down because UMNO member today cannot be fooled by announcement only.
Does he know how it is like to be poor? Same goes with Anwar, talking is not believing anymore. I support you Tun, and thankful to you to open and gave all the benefit as bumiputera under the DEB and your malay delima. Those who cannot appreciate especially the minister and ex-minister that you have given them wealth and power during your tenure, may allah put them in hell. Your strategy during the year 1997-1999 to bring the country to it's stability especially against Soros and malay delima on Anwar was the best I've seen. May God bless you and your family.

Salam Tun,
ReplyDeleteTo improve the system which was oriented to 'fine' and 'failed' by the colonial (British and european) is not an easy job.
This system is 'fine' when it is run by good, loyal and honest leader..
But this system is 'fail' if it is run by bad, dishonest and corupted leader..
Both are oriented to create failure to other nations and political world so taht the europeans remain as dominant in practicing the rule of law...
Always support you in any ways Tun...hehe
Thanx Tun
Assalamualaikum Tun,
Dear Dr,
ReplyDeleteNo one is above the law. If someone, ie. a serving prime minister, a former prime minister, a retired chief justice, a sacked deputy prime minister, a future prime minister, did anything wrong in the eyes of the law, he must be investigated and charged in the court of law if there is sufficient evidence.
He must then be allowed to defend himself for everyone is innocence until proven guilty.
On the part of the authority, they must carry out their responsibility without fear or favour when investigating any of above individual or any ordinary citizen of this country. Only then rakyat will have confidence in the judicial system of this beloved nation.
Setting up Royal Commission comprising of impeccable people is a good move, however what we saw previously, this is normally the last option to be considered by the Government. It was decided only after other commissions had failed and rakyat getting restless and impatiently wanting to see justice being served.
But it is already too late for rakyat has shown UMNO their 'super power' in the recent general election. This could be one of the reasons for UMNO worst defeat in the history of this great nation.
Royal Commission may not be necessary after all, if the authority has done, and been seen to be doing, their job with fairness, unbiased, great professionalism, without fear and favour in the first place.
To you Dr, keep on fighting for the betterment of the Malays and Malaysia.
ABSH
Tun Dr. M,
Tun,
ReplyDeletethe country still need you to do the right thing...
Instead of supporting TDM, I support JUSTICE!
ReplyDeletePlease don't blindly support a person, like what happening now in UMNO, I'm sure TDM is against this, right?
you, sir tun..clearly did not believe in the rule of law during you reign..period

ReplyDeleteAskum Tun,
ReplyDeleteI grew up on your era in 80s then my late father (civil servant in the Treasury, think maybe you remember him) always told me & my siblings that you a natural born leader, willing to stand up for the country, never forget the roots of Malays (always reminding the people).
I too believe the present PM should resign & they will cont. to attack you from every angle,The rakyat need your guidance Tun before the present govt goes haywire plz take care & 'Melayu takkan Hilang di Dunia'

Dear Sir,
ReplyDeleteThe law is there (maybe need improvement here n there). The mechanism to uphold the law are subject to be abused. Let our situation be on the disadvantage side of law, and certain authority is within us, few phone calls, case closed.(TNT only when necessary). We can say anything if we are not in power and nothing against us. But if we have any problem and the power is ours, we will do the same.
Dear Tun,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. everything happend now becasue of the weak goverment who managed by DSAB.wish you in a good conditioned
Tun,
ReplyDeleteIt is sad to see that there is no more 'rule of law' in this country. Now, Pak Lah yang maha kuasa adopts 'rule by law'.
dear tun,
ReplyDeletewell... nice words always been ignore...
Dear Tun,
ReplyDeleteI admire the way you manged the country before. due to the weak goverment nowdays, too many policy will be challenged and the country and citizen wont benefits from it..
I agree with you in all sense.
Dear YAM Tun,
ReplyDeleteIt is difficult to have rule of law when the police and the attorney general are being used by the AAB government to achieve their aims, objectives and according to their whims and fancies. What do you suggest we should do to have rule of law in Malaysia?
Hidup Tun!!!
ReplyDeletemacha,
ReplyDeletecertainly you are not the honest or the cleanest man on earth.
you had your share of shit during your 22 years of dictatorship.
my only question is why are you such a racist?
you are of indian origin. and being a man of science you very well know that this cannot be changed genetically.
why masquarade as something that you are not?
and why all the hatred?
cheers.
just another malabari
Semakin hari semakin kurang berita dari PM kita. Adakah dia sedang membuat sesuatu.
ReplyDeleteKata bidalan, diam diam ubi tapi rasanya seperti selalu diam diam besi.
Agaknya, no news is a good news.
agreed with your words but how during your time?
ReplyDeleteRule of law..? Very much depending on how we look at it Tun and our surroundings..like u said..melayu mudah lupa..:-)
ReplyDeleteSalam Dr. M,
ReplyDeleteI have very fundamental question for those really want to curb bribery; "Do they really practice 'clean' business without misuse their power?". What I would like to suggest is that, in order to curb all these briberies, the investigation shall be made to Pak Lah first before proceed with any other parties or individual. If the investigation made and found that there are issues on it, then only I will say that "The Rule of Law" is being practised.
Teruskan usahamu menegakkan maruah Bangsa dan Agama kita. Jangan pernah berputus asa TUN. Itulah permintaan saya. HIDUP Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. Semoga ALLAH memanjangkan umur mu dan sihat selalu. -amin-
ReplyDeleteassalammualaikum Tun,
Tun,
ReplyDeleteI am very happy after reading the statements from Tan Sri Shahidan Kassim. The second influential UMNO leaders after Dato' Shapie Apdal who defended you. Hope there will be more. He forgot to mentioned Nazri thought. The most useless nd ungrateful minister that I've ever known. He came twice to Dublin and never did I ever attended the meeting. Why? Because I've never known him as someone who did anything to Agama, Bangsa dan Negara. Seeing him in the parliment make me even more ashame to have a racist, ungrateful and stupid minister...I wonder who actually elected him as he was so cocky after winning the elections in his area eventhough he proudly said that he was the one who critised you the most and still winning. Well, he came to defend Paklala who need someone else to defend his action. Keep going Tun. Keep going!
Salam hormat.
Assalamua'alaikum Tun,
ReplyDeleteYour contributions to the nation couldn't be denial BUT the damages that you did will be also be remembered especially in the justice system. As a respective person why don't you just goes on your retirement by spending most of your life in the mosque, repenting all sins that you had done and always think of God because life is to short and the angle of death is coming.
Salam tok det,
ReplyDeleteseluruh keluarga kami mendoakan kesejahteraan tok det selalu. kami disini sentiasa bersama tok det!
Tun, ermm... I'm a bit confused. You are being sarcastic right? - the last para of your post. Please don't do this... not everyone gets it, just like your 'confession' that Anwar was unjustly framed.
ReplyDeleteSalam Tun,
Kami sayang Tun.
Funny, everybody claimed supporting you and no one wants to pull out from UMNO? Pls support in actions.
ReplyDeleteDear Che Det
ReplyDeleteIf we have persons of impeccable integrity heading the Police, ACA and AG's Departments, there would not be any need for Royal Commissions.
In the past Samy Velu, Rafidah Aziz and Eusoff Chin were all investigated and given a clean bill of health by the investigating agencies. But, the general public have always had their misgivings, not without some justification!
Today, some of these Govt officials are under investigation again and police reports have been made against Samy Velu alleging misappropiation of MIC/MAIKA funds & CBT.
RCI's should only be invoked as a last resort when all the other sageguards fail.
So, the question really is , why is there a repeatedly systematic failure in M'sia in finding the right persons to head these various investigative and prosecuting bodies?
It must be that we have over-relied on one person being able to make that right choice and the consultative process involving others is seriously flawed.
I am sure you have read about the 2 years or so General Electric spent to find a replacement CEO for Jack Welch; the process was that thorough. There was no way that a change in leadership of such a Global MNC was going to be left to chance!
Our processes must be far more thorough and exhaustive than GE's; we are a Nation, not a mere MNC!
Assalamualaikum Tun...
ReplyDeleteI agree with your statement, police can't do anything to the power political people in this country.
It's not they fault. Not all of them are corrupted. Some of them are good, responsible and honest in doing their job.
Without police, i can't think what will happen to this world.
Therefore, Malaysian need a secret Comission to trace this power political people if they break the law like what you did in your era.
In this case, bad political people will reconsider they doing and keep their good attitude for the citizen in the name of justice, races, religion and country.
Sekian Tun, Wassalam...
Tun, I cannot but agree with Tun on the rule of law. Every democratic country and nation must be governed by the rule of law. That being the case, no politician is above the law. However, Tun, there is one thing above the rule of law. That is politics which must be distinguished from an individual politician or a few politicians. Because the rule of law requires the political will of a nation for its existence and enforcibility. Sometimes, a good cause may lose its political appeal and support and thus the rule of law may be bent against it. Therefore, in the USA, there is a lot of emphasis on "due process" which requires proper procedures be followed in arriving at certain decisions. This takes away certain legal risks in the event the cause for certain decisions of the executive may not find favour of certain quarters. For those who misuse political will against someone whose cause is not in vogue, be it through royal commission or other machinery, they are answerable to their own conscience in this world and then, to the Mighty God.

ReplyDeleteAssalamualaikum,
it is quite amazing that if the country can adopt a right implementation of the rule of law as it never shown that the governors whether latter or former are put a greater interest in doing so. Rakyat bawahan sering menjadi mangsa especially regards to taxation sedangkan part of them tidak. Pegawai bawahan corrupt 5 ringgit pun dah kena buang kerja.
assalamualaikum tun,

I think most of the commentators commenting here do not understand the underlying message from Mahathir.
ReplyDeleteHe is making fun of the Royal Commission on the Lingam tape as well as attacking the current PM.
Mahathir, you are a clever man! But during the years of your reign, you used your brain to advance your self interest as well to help your non-bumi cronies like Ananda Krishnan and Vincent Tan while completely ignoring the working and middle class malays and muslims! You will need to answer a lot when you meet the Almighty!
assalamu alaikum,
ReplyDeletemohon maaf. jika silap harap perbetulkan.
Tun salah seorang negarawan terbilang yg terlalu sukar dicari ganti.
Dearest Tun,
ReplyDeletePenyokong Tun bukannya ramai di Malaysia ni... tetapi terlampau ramai!
:)
Keep up the pressure Tun. I have had enough with this corrupt, dictatorial but visionless leadership of Pak Lah.
Salam hormat.
Ironic that you talk of Rule of Law, it is in your time that the law cried for its defence, However you are the one who destroyed the judiary and sacked all the judges who had diffent views. It took so long for some sanity to come to our judiary. Now that you are not in power you talk about Rule of Law. Please reflect your past and you will discover yourself for once, who is the bigger crook.
ReplyDeletepanjang umur Tun..banyakkan semayang hajat, kiter sumer pun sama, sujud pada Allah s.w.t...amin
ReplyDeleteDear Tun,
ReplyDeleteI applaud your wise words in 'the rule of law'- very wise words indeed if followed. The key here is followed- it's true as you mentioned, one need to know one's report would be investigated without fear or favour by the police, but it seems highly uncalled for these words to be written by you-after all, you were the one who deprived the juduciary of its rightful autonomy, werent you?. Why would that have to be done , had it been your priority that everyone should have the right to report without fear or favour?. Clearly, it wasnt your priority than, when you were in charge, so why bring it up now when its your term no longer?. And its funny how you mentioned the PM must have laws spelt out to him, does he not have knowledge of suh matters? I mean its understandable if it concerns intricate and complex laws and isues, but not for every small matter should it be spelt out to him, am I right?. This funnily brings up the question if every tom, dick n harry can be the PM of Malaysia as everything has to be spelt out to him,as you mentioned, Im sure not, being PM requires one dedicated and meticulous, therefore why the need to spell out laws to him?. Foegive me if anything abovementioned was wrong.
assalamualaikum Tun,
ReplyDeletePlease continue your pressure so that correction can be made. Kiah have to say that Kiah voted in PRU12 with so much frustrated feeling.
Frustrated with wrongness of the current leader, and mostly because he is too weak! Very much!
Too weak in controlling his guys and always made bad decisions. A leader that cannot controlled subordinates is indeed a very weak leader.
There might not be so many report of top guys quitting UMNO, but Kiah believe the "akar umbi" had slowly doing that. And for your information Tun, your action had "paused" Kiah desire to join UMNO to fight for Malay and Muslim right via UMNO (for now), to support you. And Kiah also believe it had paused, stop or even kill hundred thousands more desire of people who was never an UMNO member but recently want to join UMNO! Just like me.
My dear Tun, Kiah prayer is for you. May Allah bless your fight for good!
sincere,
Kiah
As'kum Tun,
ReplyDeleteWe will always support you & keep up the good work.
Dear Tun,
ReplyDeleteI get what you mean about having more creditable Commissions to "balance out" the enforcement of the "Rule of Law" especially with regards to sensitive cases involving the Prime Minister and ex-PM like yourself. As a disabled activist a lot could be done if we have a Commission to preside over issues regarding the Persons with Disabilities Act. At the moment its just waiting for the Minister to act and this has taken such a long time, while children are not going to school and disabled people are not getting jobs and some disabled people getting abused...yes, Commissions should be commonly used rather than done once in a blue moon as how else do you create a fair and balanced judgment. Thanks for giving us your thoughts on this.
Tun,
ReplyDeleteI always support you.
Dear Tun,
ReplyDeletegrowing up as Malaysian, sad to say that what I have observed for more than 30 years. The "Rule of Law" is only applicable to those weak, poor and powerless like our ordinary man. People who are rich, famous and in absolute power doesn't applied to it. It is true. Sad isn't it?
That is why many struggles and fight for all their life for fortune politics.
Money is Politics and in vice-versa. That is why we always say dirty politics. When there is dirty politics then there will be dirty jurisdiction.
Rich and powerful people doesn't have "The Rule of Law" in their dictionary because they provide the law. :(
Finally "Rule of the Law" will be from the Almighty on the judgement and punishment day.
Man made Law and Law are meant to be broken by Man too.
Long live Tun! and together we will all see whether "The Rule of Law" in Malaysia will be perish?
Salam TDM
ReplyDeleteTun teruskan saja perjuangan yang tun pegang. saya percaya "silent majority" akan terus menyokong tun. kita semua tahu bahawa pru12 membuktikan bahawa "silent majority" ini tidak menyokong AAB.
Harap tun jaga kesihatan dgn baik.
salam.
we are supporting u now n forever..
Askum Tun,
ReplyDeleteThe rule of law are always broken Tun but i think nobody dares to mention it even myself before the elections, you have started to bring the house down, I respect that Tun, you have that qualities that some people dont (anugerah Allah SWT), People should remember you of bringing modern Malaysia to their greatest heights
But i think you must be careful Tun as the present govt headed by DSAAB influence is actually in the grassroots even to high ranking in UMNO and the rakyat itself from my point of view.
I dare to say this becoz i am from the grassroots in a urban community & well mixed either opposition or govt itself, well in UMNO case there is a strong & yet powerful religious/biz sect headed by a powerful figure & his deputy , very well organized (as i see it) & many other malays knows it too even other community as well.
Be extra careful Tun as it is going to be a difficult road ahead but dont worry Tun not everybody are obsessed with them as the last election shows meaning enough is enough. When you were PM Tun, this kind of sect or whatever they call it has never been heard before in a large group, in KL for instance when a group fought each other they will call people from their district/taman/villages to help out (I grew up in Urban City & heavily mixed with low/middle income group) but nowdays they will call people with a code at nationwide branches.
Know for the fact that this group has establish for many years until suddenly DSAAB took over from you Tun (maybe their strategy), they have made their presence felt (I have been offered membership before) So good luck Tun & take care of your health & you have my full support.
(Hopefully Tun & DSAI will forgive each other one day)
Salam
tabahkan hati tun dan teruskan tekanan, saya berbangga selama berada dibawah pimpinan tun, tapi kini kenapa saya berasa amat gusar sekali. Pak lah oh pak lah, kau tolonglah dengar nasihat tun.
ReplyDeleteAlways with TUN.. TUN nak cakap apa pun cakap la.. keep up pressure to our deaf PM.. We will never vote BN if still under Pak Lah.. This man only can be PM in Kepala Batas.
ReplyDeleteTun jaga kesihatan elok2... cukup time jgn lupe mkn ubat kalau TUN sakit lg :)
Dearest Tun M,
ReplyDeleteAre you serious or are you being sarcastic? But, no matter what I can understand what you are saying..well said!
Keep on posting Tun! May Allah bless Tun and family.
wah....
ReplyDeleteade plak yg ckp TUN making fun of the LAW!!!Ai.......Tanye2 plak time TUN dulu tu cane......EEEEE....Klu AAB tu betul, semua org tak complaint laaa...takkan la org nk marah tanpa sebab...PIKIR LA BEB....Ckp main ckp jek...EEE...Ko sekolah ke tak???
to be honest, i think m'sia dint have much improvement in these few years. many criminals have happened and it made public to feel unsecured. Police seriously have to do something about it. It is not only concerning the safety and will affect our country's economic and image as well. Government must have a good image in order to lead the country.
ReplyDeletep/s: i respect sir a lot. all the best
My dear Tun,
ReplyDeleteare you being sarcastic in the last paragraph ?
what a sarcastic statement yet again from you Tun. it's very good.malay says kena dekat batang hidung.
ReplyDeletethe commissions will be set up just to show that the government is transparent but the actual purpose is not served.like lingam case, they are just trying to hook you but they will fail for sure.
Tun,
ReplyDeleteLet see if black is black and white is white!
Only then can we say that its free and fair!
Take care!
ReplyDeleteDear Tun,
ReplyDeleteI believe that holding the rule of law should be of utmost importance to all of us especially leaders of Malaysia. One should also remember that all actions must be just and accompanied with accountability to the people.
Dear Tun
ReplyDeleteI am really sorry, but i have to say this. The things u mentioned regarding the authorities especially the police not doing their job properly is an issue than has been disturbing the minds of many Malaysians during your days as a PM.
Now that you can see what is happening from an eye view of a public person. I really hope that you could understand, that this is what we felt when many cases are not being treated as what it is supposed to be, during your days. Now, God gave you the chance to understand our feelings that we had been keeping to ourselves for the past 20+ years.
That is why there are people who did go against you and your government. I am really sorry that I have to voice it out to you but justice is what will make us all a loyal citizen.
Thank you

Salam Tun,
-------------------------------------------------------------
Hasil siasatan video Lingam * Bukti kerajaan sedia bertindak
KUALA LUMPUR 16 Mei – Majlis Peguam menyifatkan keputusan Kabinet mendedahkan laporan Suruhanjaya Diraja Siasatan Klip Video V.K.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Walau bagaimanapun, kita janganlah nyanyuk macam puak-puak BEROK MAT YEH ni pasal sehingga setakat ini, kuasa mencadangkan Ketua Hakim Negara masih ditangan jawatan Perdana Menteri..
Insyallah
BUAT SEMUA RAKYAT. MARILAH KITA SAMA-SAMA TUNGGU KEPULANGAN YUN NANTI. AMBIL CUTI KALAU PERLU
Dear Tun, I would appreciate if you can stop attack the PM. Let him focus on his job, improve the country economy, rather than spending so much time and effort to handle unneccessary comment. Tun, there are still lots middle and lower class people working hard for their living, not like you has been retire. Think for us, please !
ReplyDeleteThe rule of law should reign supreme unless we are to let ourselves be in a state of anarchy. However though the notion of being ruled by law is somewhat ideal, it is usually distorted by the rule of man. By men who walks the corridors of power who are in the same time corrupted manipulators of the law and the justice system.
ReplyDeleteAny idea on how to eliminate the rule of man (woman also) heh? Take care TUN..

When it comes to law we have:-
ReplyDeleteLaw makers
Law interpreters
Law enforcers
Law breakers
However, from time to time, they play their "Musical Chairs" game
Whether or not strictly for personal gain or national fame
At times they even scorch the entire earth with excessive flame
Until observers are wondering what on earth they are doing in "what's the name"

Dear Tun.
ReplyDeleteWell said Tun. The "rule of law" is meaningless when the authority themselves misuse the power vested on them to determine the outcome of their investigation.
Wishing Tun and family good health always.
My beloved Tun,
ReplyDeleteWhy is Pak Lah silent? Why isn't he being a man to take your challenge to step down? After all what is he good for other than sleeping in meetings, conferences, lectures and travelling here and there doing less than good to our nation, race and his ownself?
I support Mukhriz's voice to seek Abdullah Badawi's power transition to someone who transcends intelligence, moral standards, diligence.
My beloved Tun Dr Mahathir, you rest well and leave this to Mukhriz.. I believe he is more capable to defending your believes and thoughts more than you think. Your health and longevity is utmost concern because we Malaysians.. either in silence or crying out loud, we love you dearly oh..our great leader!
YB Tun, saya setuju. Kalau dok bentuk Royal Commission ja, buat apa kita ada PDRM. Memang bahlol gomen sekarang.
ReplyDeleteDan saya faham maksud Tun.
Depa masih tak faham-faham yang the 'silent Malay majority' is not with them.
Tun, if nothing changed for the better in UMNO this year, please consider forming a new Malay party. Kita lawan depa Tun. The 'silent Malay majority' is with you.
Salam Tun dan Semua Fellow Malaysians,
ReplyDeleteTUN...what is "THE RULE OF LAW" in Malaysia ? Malaysians are lost in the rules of biased law today.
Malaysia BN government has failed miserably to protect the soverignity of PULAU BATU PUTIH from falling into the jurisdiction of a small state, Singapore.
Furthermore, the illegal immigrants problem in Sabah posed serious danger to the local Sabahan today.
We read a good feeback comments on the said issues as below for TUN attention.
What is your view and comments the said topics? TUN, please enlighten Malaysians on both issues.
===========================
Rakyat Malaysia menyokong Saudara YB Lim Kit Siang menyoal pasal pendatang tanpa izin (illegal immigrants) yang sangat banyak melebihi penduduk penduduk tempatan Sabah.
Selamatkan Sabah sekarang sebelum terlambat. Insyaallah !
Dari Rakyat Malaysia, Sabah, Sawarak dan
Anak Bangsa Malaysia.

Ehsan
Jalan dititi sudah dilalu,
Sambil mencari sebuah sampan,
Jangan diungkit kesah yang lalu,
Berusahalah kita maju kedepan.
Sampan yang bocor marilah ditampal,
Dayung yang patah boleh disambung,
Perkara lama janganlah disesal,
Ampun dan Rahmat sentiasa dijunjung.
Jalan dituju amatlah jauh,
Tiada tahu nasib dan untung,
Kita berjalan sentiasa terjatuh,
Bersamalah kita tolong menolong.
Sampan didayung janganlah laju,
Supaya dapat melihat ikan,
Apalah erti kumpulan yang maju,
Jika tiada belas dan ehsan.
Penat berdayung kita berhenti,
Untuk menjamah bekal dibawa,
Janganlah kita benci membenci,
Kelak semua akan binasa.
Bekal dibawa hendaklah banyak,
Supaya tidak meminta minta,
Tiada siapa yang tidak layak,
Syurga tersedia untuk semua.
Sampan dinaik beramai ramai,
Didayung pula bersama sama,
Setiap orang mempunyai pandai,
Cuma berbeza bidang sahaja.
Arah dituju hendaklah sama,
Supaya tak lelah kita semua,
Nasihat itu amat berguna,
Hati dan budi pula berharga.
Tersesat arah sampan didayung,
Bintang dilangit dibuat pedoman,
Janganlah kita bersikap sombong,
Itulah perbuatan yang kurang siuman.
Bukan sampan yang kita cinta,
Bukan dayung yang hendak bawa,
Jangan kita saling menghina,
Hidayah itu Allah yang punya.
Tiba masa sampan ditinggalkan,
Berpisahlah kita untuk selamanya,
Salahnya orang dicari jangan,
Neraca keadilan adalah milikNya.

ReplyDeleteIsn't it obvious that our constitution doesn't carry that much weight anymore Tun.
The next best thing would be to look at the law. The IG, ACA, AG, PM and the GOVERNMENT are all connected through the law by their appointment process.
Take PM and government servants out of the equation would be better. Then everybody would truly be independent. Have all of these bodies answer to 1 RC if the need arises. The RC could also advise and recommend suitable candidate/s to HRH YDP Agong for appointments. You can work out the details later.
Justice is for all regardless of creed of color or positions for that matter. AS of now, it is still the same old song and dance. Nothing really revolutionary has been implemented. And from the looks of things it is hopeless.
But i do think that the rakyat can make a difference. We have to make our elected representatives to listen to what we want. You and I and the rakyat voted them in. You and I and the rest of the rakyat are the boss. those elected are our servants and not the other way around. There's a fine line between greatness and responsibilities. Think about that.
Anyways. God bless and slm. =)
Yg Bhg Tun and all bloggers,
ReplyDeleteTake a break...i dedicate this to siapa yang makan cili.
RAINDROPS KEEP FALLING ON MY HEAD
JUST LIKE THE GUY WHOSE FEET
ARE TOO BIG FOR HIS BED
NOTHING SEEMS TO FIT
THOSE RAINDROPS KEEP FALLING ON MY HEAD
THEY KEEP FALLING
SO I JUST DID ME SOME TALKING TO THE SUN
I SAID I DIDN’T LIKE THE WAY
HE GOT THINGS DONE
SLEEPING ON THE JOB
THOSE RAINDROPS KEEP FALLING ON MY HEAD
THEY KEEP FALLING
BUT THERE’S ONE THING I KNOW
THE BLUES THEY SEND TO MEET ME
WON’T DEFEAT ME
IT WON’T BE LONG
TILL HAPPINESS STEPS UP TO GREET ME
RAINDROPS KEEP FALLING ON MY HEAD
BUT THAT DOESN’T MEAN
MY EYES WILL SOON BE TURNING RED
CRYING IS NOT FOR ME
CAUSE I’M NEVER GONNA STOP THE RAIN BY COMPLAINING
BECAUSE I’M FREE
NOTHING WORRYING ME
Have a good weekend Tun and all..
Tun you're a wise man with big golden heart. You truly gained my family support.
ReplyDeleteNo other leaders in this country could replace you. May Almighty God bless you with more strength in your endless journey.
"We 100% support you, Tun"
Tun,
ReplyDeleteReading your post here, it is clear what you are getting at. That the Rule of Law now practised seems so much better, yes, but aimed at those not in power.
They now aim at you who is no longer in power. You are no longer the PM. Why put you on trial?
If they do, are they not putting the KLCC, F1, MSC, Proton, PLUS, Putra Jaya, saving the economy from IMF, removing Anwar from becoming PM today, and everything you did on trial?
Since they now purport you to be corrupt to high heaven, then everything you done must have been bad for them and should be tried. Yet they relish in the comfort and zone you have created for them as if you are loyal to them more than law itself.
I know it is so hard to be PM and serve the nation and deliver the goods more than self-comfort.
Today those in power are on trial. Have they deliver the goods? Have they learnt their lessons? Have they made amends? But finally can they resolve the most pressing rising costs the rakyat is facing on a near breaking point.
PRU 13 is the final rule of law.

Salam Tun,
ReplyDeleteSalam Tun,
ReplyDeletesaya bukannya tidak faham langsung, tetapi kenapa saya rasa Tun being sarcastic?
off topic:
What we need is an independent court and the only way to do so is to make sure that judges or magistrates must at least practice law for like 5 to 10 years. I still remember my first time visiting a civil court during my high school where the magistrate arrived 20 minutes late and adjourned half an hour early. Not to say the way he managed the court was embarrassing beyond belief. He could tell the lawyer to hurry up so he could be on time for golf@@!!??
ReplyDeleteThe next thing that is needed is to ensure that our 3 chief justices be expanded to like 5 or 7 and that their term limits are lengthen to 20 years so they could make independent judgments.
However the ONE thing that i agree with you most Tun is that i believe that the royalty has overstepped its boundaries and interfering with the government. Letting the Sultans to decide the MBs were the worst precedent ever set in the history of Malaysia. Keep up the good work Tun!!!
Dear Tun,
ReplyDeleteWe always support you.. thanks for everything you did to our beloved country.
mylin
To me, you are the best PM thus far. Crisp and right to the point comments and analysis, rather than go round n round ...talking endlessly but saying nothing at all..n u who know who i m referring to..M'sia certainly need an able leader..just hope that those who are around the present leader will not induce him into a false sense of superiority and comfort..things need to b done fast, decisions made .. in these challenging times..of globalisation etc etc... and i dun see the present group of leaders handling issues effectively..all a bunch of yes men with no mind of their own..just repeating what the leader said..is that what we want..is that what we need..??
ReplyDeleteM always with u....
Dear TDM,
ReplyDeleteWell the article is mainly about you right? and you are very concern about them bringing you to justice for the lobbying of judges case. So its all about you, but you try to put as if all of us are in it.
Nevertheless, I agree with you that laws should be very clear especially on what a prime inister can or cannot do. We just can't just move the goal post everytime and you become the victim. If it is not stated, then it should be allowed. If other country is not a crime, why must it be a crime here.... further more it is not stated anywhere it is forbidden.
If they keep moving the goalpost, i am sure every prime minister would be jailed someway or another. For the rest of the rakyat, most of the law stays the same as our decision doesnt impact the government or its agencies.

This blog, these posts from someone who is a Bigot? Someone who is dying to play the racial card again and again and again? What is it Dr. M? Are you out to show how Malay you are? Would you like to write a post on what you real name was when you entered University? Or is that a source of embarassment to you? In your last years atleast be honest with yourself la.
ReplyDeleteADEPUTRAJAYA
Tun,
ReplyDeleteCuba fikirkan begini ! Nampak degil sangat Pak Lah ni akan membahayakan negara.
Tun masuk semula UMNO bertanding lawan President. Pasti ramai yang menyokong. Bersihkan UMNO dari penyangak2. Sebab sekarang Tun sudah kenal mana penyangak2 itu.
Kembalikan UMNO kepada matlamat asalnya. InsyaAllah selamat semuanya. Barulah orang Melayu kalau mati pun boleh tutup mata rapat.
Tun,
ReplyDeleteGood advice or critic is like a bitter bill and is very difficult to swallow.
Take it easy Tun, the world will take its natural course. You're worrying too much about ... almost everything. Let them be, Malaysia is now 50 years old already.
May god bless you with better health, and enjoy your life.
Assalamualaikum Tun,
ReplyDeleteKerajaan sekarang makin teruk, semua subsidi nak ditarik.
Kalau nak tarik sangat subsidi.Batal semua cukai, pekerja swasta macam kami ni boleh la dapat bonus banyak sikit.
asalamualaikum tun,
Tun,
ReplyDeleteAs a non-malaysian , i think malaysians are very fortunate to have a leader who is so visionary and fights endlessly for the bangsa Melayu and above all , the fight against imperialism.
no matter how brilliant a leader is , there is no such thing as perfectness.but what counts are the significant progress and development he brings.
Tun , you are respected internaionally for ur wisdom and your frankness. What the current government is doing to you , in my humble opinion is unacceptable and absolutely lacking in respect.
When i read or watch rude and crude comments by some of the ministers towards you , i wonder , are people suppose to accept them as leaders?
Tun , the world is still watching you and u have by far shown only the integrity of a leader.
salam Tun M,
ReplyDeleteSaya doakan semoga Tun M sihat hendaknya.
Tun, sememangnya, "Melayu Mudah Lupa".
More than half of Umno members from Shah Alam are with you Tun, We are ready to leave Umno now. May Allah Bless you always
ReplyDeleteBye Bye Umno
How do we send a message to Pak Lah? D. Mukhriz pointed out that everybody should send a message to Pak Lah. But how? We are not celebrities and well known people to use the media as the medium. For us normal civilians how do we do it? And for those non-official UMNO members who can't resign from UMNO (bcz the r not officialy in) to show protest, how do they send a message. Should we have an official website of protest, a petition or some sort? One thing for sure, the medium mus be easy and convenient for the rakyat to reach. Then it can be more effective.
ReplyDeleteIt's absolutely true Tun. Our country is constitutional supreme and therefore we shall NOT be ruled by law but we shall be governed by the rule of law.
ReplyDeleteSalam Tun,
Rakyat hairan, kenapa asyik Tun sahaja kerajaan nak cari salah..?
"Rule of Law" zaman Abdullah ini
masih boleh dipertikaikan keikhlasan dan tujuannya ...

1) The judiciary in Malaysia is already tainted.
ReplyDelete2) The enforcers of the law are crippled
So why talk about the Rule of Law? The truth is power corrupts - it holds true for past leaders as well as the present.
We have only to hope for justice in the heavenly realms - because it is unlikely that there will be any here....
Dear Tun,
ReplyDeleteI'm saddened that after many years, many still see this problem from such a limited perspective.
The problem exists because the political system that our country is based on has very little distinctions between the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of governance. Its as simple as that.
As long as these branches are overlapped, absolute rule of law will never exist. We must stop being so naive as to think that establishing Royal Commissions will offer real and long term solutions to our problems.
If a simple laymen like myself can comprehend such a thing like this, its really a wonder how a person like you don't see this in all its entirety.
You should know better. The fact that the current administration inherited these structures from your past administration cannot be denied. Its very unsettling how you can casually overlook this very fact, while at the same time offer such a limited solution to such a broad problem.
Regards.
Tun,
ReplyDeleteA good governance is very important to the country. Actually if we can manage our wealth properly and if there is zero corruption in our country - In today, we do not even need to worry much of inflation, we don't need to worry much about petrol price. Yes definitely it will still have an impact but it will not be that bad.
I read alot of blogs and I too see that alot of anti-TDM there trying to criticise your style of leadership. To me, I have no any problem in the way you manage the country. To manage a multiracial country and to modernize the country like what you have done is never an easy job. You have done them very well. Thou we can't deny there will also come some bad things as well BUT then there is never 100% in this thing but whatever we make sure is the things we get in return are WORTH it and the whole country benefit from the return. Sometimes you have to sacrifice a little and to gain more so you can only move forward.
Yes, we did sacrifice a little but we moved forward alot. That's why. There is nothing comes free in the world. So some people are taking the "small sacrifices" made and forget about the "BIGGER contribution" that they have received indirectly.
Today I went to Bukit Jalil and passby Kompleks Sukan Negara and I think of your project in turning Malaysia into a well-known country. We of course spent alot on the project but look back at the returns. People know Malaysia. I was only 14 that time and I remember I was chatting with a friend from overseas and she asked where I from and I told her I am from Malaysia. There she told me, "Oh.. Malaysia.. Host of Commonwealth". I proudly said yes. Of coure this will also boost our country economic in the long term as people know about Malaysia more and all the stadium built can be used for long term such as hosting any sports event.
2ndly, LRT/Monorail project. If no monorail, wondering how much citizens going to spend on their petrol, time and parking fee (if calculated hourly in certain places). Hey people say the project is expensive but it brings long term benefit. Infact, I am still hoping the present goverment will still extend the routes for the LRT to certain places. Let's see on this project, how much petrol has we actually saved and how much subsidy has your project helped the goverment to save on? I certainly hope to goverment would rather find way to fork some money out to build all these kind of public transport as this is also the way to reduce petrol subsidy. Once we have become a net importer of oil. We might not be able to subsidise that much goods but we still have all these to cover our daily needs.
3rd. Sepang F1 circuit. The point will just be like Bukit Jalil as tourist comes here and people knowing Malaysia.
4th. Proton. People bashing Tun for starting the Proton project. Hey, how can a country that already have a vision 2020 does not even have the capability to build its own national car? Yes, some people complain that the quality on Proton does not deserve on the price that they have to pay. Yes, I may agree on that which Proton all these while did not actually able to produce an almost-zero-problematic car. Every model especially coming the first batch will have alot of problems which consumers are so frustrated at. But hey to say that Tun's project on Proton is a bad idea is not correct. We look at the idea of having a national car will make us proud. Quality-issue on the car is not purely Tun's fault. Of course I will take this complain to the related persons where Tun has given them the opportunity to make the country proud with such a big big project but these people were not able to do the job that well. I may hate to say that if I have enough money then I will rather purchase a Toyota, Honda but I can't deny that we need to have a brand of our own and Proton is the one so I expect Proton to improve more and hopefully Proton will be at the top with top brand such as Toyota, Honda. At least same par if not better.
5. How about the Twin-Tower? I still heard many foreigners came to Malaysia and want to see the twin-tower very much.
Of course there are alot of projects. I may not say all are success as nothing is 100% but we are just human. I believe some of the projects will still see its benefits in future if not now. Well Tun, I also guess I said too much though I still have alot to add on.
I am glad I can still speak this out personally to you.
Last but not least. Thanks and Regards and do take care yourself.
Sincerely,
DavE
Tun:

Salam Tun,
ReplyDeleteNow you are talking about the rule of law. Why wasn't the rule of law being duly implemented when you were the prime minister??
I think you are the worst leader this country ever had. You are the "mother of all law breaker" You manipulate the laws, abusing the judiciary and putting the whole government agencies under your mercy. Who the f--- you think you are??
You still capitalize on the belief that "melayu mudah lupa" but you have forgotten that not all malays are stupid. Wake up and face reality. As I have remind you time after time, repent before you kick the bucket that could happen anytime now.
Greetings! Tun
ReplyDeleteMy highest respects to you as a great leader and a far vision for Malaysia, that's no doubt about it in the earlier day.
However, the group of “Kampong Boys lead by AB” that you’ve earlier installed in UMNO is they understand you? In my opinion, they'll just running small business merely here in Malaysia with the guy called KJ.
I hope you can give way to PR in view of the only way to save Malaysia. Otherwise, all your hard works plants will eventually drown in a deep sea.
Best regards.
Tun, let's not forget you were the one that made this country looks like a pariah one, the same status like Zimbabwe.

Don't insult us anymore, it is time for you to redeem your sin. Come out clean, tell all even if you have to pay for it in jail. We will support you as a gentleman and someone who admit his sins and mistake. You will then leave a legacy for your children, grandchildren, great grandchildren who will proudly mentioned your name..

///Malaysia is a country which practices the rule of law. Our laws must cover every aspect of our societal life, so we will know exactly what we can do and what we cannot do. Prime Ministers in particular must have everything spelt out for them in this respect. This will enable them to be charged if they had breached the rule of law long after they had retired.///---TDM
ReplyDeleteIf the sentence refers to what happens now, the question is in fact being raised in the last paragraph by TDM himself. TDM asked “If the investigation is only to clear the name, then can we say the rule of law is being properly practiced?”
In Operation Lallang in 1987 more than one hundred persons including Lim Kit Siang and other DAP leaders, were detained under ISA. The person, the UMNO Youth Chief at that time, who brandished Keris and claimed the wish to soak it with Chinese blood was not arrested. When the Keris wielding UMNO leader who clearly broke the law was free but others were arrested, that was selective application of law. It was certainly not rule of law that TDM practiced then. It was rule by law, to serve his interests only.
If the argument was to have the rules spelt out for Prime Ministers so that succeeding government can ( have the convenience) charge them in court long after they have retired, it is not necessary since the government does not go witch hunting if the former PM did no wrong. If the argument was that former Prime Minister cannot be charged if he was not given the list of what not to do, then the same applies to all citizens. Public order would break down if that argument is accepted.
AAB was trying to do his job as PM, and enjoying some of the power which he learned from his former boss. PM AAB realized that he should not be a puppet at the whims of the puppet master. But his former boss not only ran him down with all kind of accusations, but contributed to reducing his majority in the election of March 8 2008. AAB knew that after bullying non-Malays for half a century, he had to try to win over the support of non-Malays, by claiming that he would be PM for all Malaysians, as a first step to forging Bangsa Malaysia said to be coined by TDM. To TDM, AAB’s statement went against the core principle of UMNO.
///Governments, serving Prime Ministers and Ministers are well placed to initiate action against others. But when the Government, the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister do something wrong, like cover-ups for example, then police reports may be made against them. But how can the person reporting be sure that the police will investigate without fear or favour. ///---TDM
That is a good question. Did TDM ever asked that question during his 22 years reign? It is reported that a police report has been made against the remarks made recently by TDM in Johore. It was said that the remarks were seditious. We shall know the answer to TDM’s question whether police will investigate without fear or favour.
///I believe some reports have been made but so far there have been no results.
When this is done we can say that this beloved country practises the rule of law.///---TDM
So the investigation on the Lingam tapes meets the standards TDM wants to see. The Attorney General is right then to order further investigations. Like court cases, the judge will have to decide whether evidence was acceptable, and decision had sometime been made based on probabilities which could involve probable theories where others could term them as speculations. Whatever basis on which they decide, people must be sincere to the tasks assigned. Persons of impeccable character certainly serve Royal Commission well.

I thought I will save the trouble writing what I really want to. Haris Ibrahim has done that for me. Now I post it here for you to read at your pleasure. Of ocures you have no guts to respond to this because Haris is too smart for you. Your responses are usually only reserved for your mates in UMNO, right? Read this:
ReplyDeleteMahathir s/o Mohamed, you are despicable!
May 24, 2008
Mahathir s/o Mohamed, today you have reached an all time low.
Malaysiakini reports today that in Tokyo, you warned of possible unrest in our country, and said that “extremists” among different communities had begun to voice their opposition and make unfair demands on the government, trying to “divide rather than unite.”
Malaysiakini quotes you :
“Now we are seeing the different races making demands on the government, which they perceive as a weak government”
The Malaysian Insider reports that on 17th May, in Johor, whilst speaking at a gathering, you referred to the Hindraf memo, and then said :
“What does it say? Malaysia for Malaysians! This is the reality of the present situation. If we do not speak up, if we choose to keep quiet, we will lose our rights and the other races will take over. When that happens, it will be like Singapore. Do you think we will still have control?”
What, Malaysia is not for Malaysians? For who, then?
Racists like you only?
Who is the extremist now, intent on dividing our people, if not yourself?
I checked your blog to see if perhaps you might have posted something there that would suggest you have been misquoted.
This is what I found you had written on 16th May, 2008, under the heading ‘Ketuanan Melayu’ :
Sebaliknya mereka meminta-minta orang tertentu mempertahankan kedudukan orang Melayu.
Was it not you, in mooting your Vision 2020 in 1991, who advocated a Bangsa Malaysia? See what you said then :
By the year 2020, Malaysia can be a united nation, with a confident Malaysian society, infused by strong moral and ethical values, living in a society that is democratic, liberal and tolerant, caring, economically just and equitable, progressive and prosperous, and in full possession of an economy that is competitive, dynamic, robust and resilient. There can be no fully developed Malaysia until we have finally overcome the nine central strategic challenges that have confronted us from the moment of our birth as an independent nation.
See your first and eighth strategies to achieve this vision.
The first of these is the challenges of establishing a united Malaysian nation with a sense of common and shared destiny. This must be a nation at peace with itself, territorially and ethnically integrated, living in harmony and full and fair partnership, made up of one ‘Bangsa Malaysia’ with political loyalty and dedication to the nation.
The eighth is the challenge of ensuring an economically just society. This is a society in which there is a fair and equitable distribution of the wealth of the nation, in which there is full partnership in economic progress. Such a society cannot be in place so long as there is the identification of race with economic function, and the identification of economic backwardness with race.
Now as you traverse the country spewing your racist rhetoric of ketuanan Melayu just to save your own sorry butt, why don’t you also apologise to your audience for sowing this idea of Bangsa Malaysia, for advocating an end to identification of race with economic function?
Why don’t you also tell them about the friends that you’ve enriched at their expense?
Why don’t you tell them that in the name of ‘membasmikan kemiskinan’ you have entrenched them in abject poverty?
Understand this, Mahathir s/o Mohamed.
We survived, notwithstanding your 22 years.
Notwithstanding your plunder of this nation’s wealth and resources.
And whilst you talked then of Bangsa Malaysia but did little, we will walk that talk.
We will begin to build our Bangsa Malaysia.
Understand that if many feared you before, now you are viewed with scorn.

Yes, I agree and believe that holding the rule of law should be of utmost importance to all of us especially leaders of Malaysia.
ReplyDeleteTun,
To sideline a bit particularly related to Pulau Batu Puteh case, what's your opinion of boycotting Singapore and Singaporean product to show our displeasure on their unhealthy unethical behaviour as our neighbour?
I feel that Malaysians should seriously consider using their economic power and start choosing where to to spend their money - buying less or boycotting Singapore products will be a first step to show that we Malaysians are not happy with our neighbour's unethical unfriendly behaviour.
Assalamualaikum Tun
Sama-sama kita nyanyikan lagu warisan

ReplyDeleteTun M,
ReplyDeleteI continue to be amazed at your hypocrisy. Everyone knows you crippled the judicial system & the police are beholden to their political masters.
I was a victim of assault in 1991 & the court case has STILL not been set, yet you managed to get people tried & convicted for lesser crimes in weeks while the people without power suffer in silence.
Let's have a bit of honesty on your part please.
Salam Tun,
ReplyDeleteOnly have time to read and post comments during weekends.
I have always believed that the man-made Law is only a tool for keeping of a community peaceful and harmonious. Therefore, the spirit of the law is more important than the minute details. However, I've seen in the West and recently, in Malaysia, that the right of an individual or a small minority takes priority to peace and harmony of the larger group just because we want to demonstrate we are protecting individual rights.
To me such a trend is dangerous in a multi-racial country like Malaysia. We have lived in a system of give-and-take for so long. This system has kept the balance of racial tension in check. Dare I give the example of Malay preferential treatment vs. Chinese/ Indian freedom to keep their native names, language and schools. This is the give-and-take balance that has kept Malaysia peaceful since 1969.
The current government is dismantling this system by going on a Legal rights campaign or in US terms - Freedom. It will do more harm than good in this country as it will disturb the balance. Recently, we have seen a lot of noises from minority groups while the majority, even when they feel the pressure, has kept silent. How far and how long will this continue?
For this reason, I have no confidence with the current leadership. The same goes with Anwar led PKR who has always been going the same route.
Salam Y.A.Bhg Tun & all bloggers,
ReplyDeleteKita biasa dengar pepatah mengatakan "anjing menyalak bukit"...
Tun memberi pandangan beliau berdasarkan pengalaman 22 tahun memerintah negara malaysia DIBAWAH PARTI UMNO/BN...
Salam untuk Y.A.Bhg Tun Dr Siti Hasmah

Dear Tun Mahathir,
ReplyDeleteObserving the current turmoil plaguing the Malaysian political scene, I cant help but notice the appetite of the majority of our elected leaders, regardless of the factions they represent to secure their position mainly and if i am too bold to say, for pure personal gain.
Although there is a lot of criticism around Tun, i am very sure that you are a man who is clearly able to justify and accept criticism and of course i am in NO POSITION TO JUDGE YOU.
My only wish is for Tun to make these leaders be totally aware that they are representing the interest of Malaysians, regardless of ethnicity and religion. Your recently acquired neutral status (although some will disagree with me) will be detrimental in putting the wrongs right especially in UMNO and BN.
Leaders will be remembered by the people they guide. Some will be remembered as the merciful, some as tyrants and some will be remembered as heroes...Your influence still pulls a lot of weight in the political scene.
Tun i genuinely hope one day when the future generations in Malaysia looks back to this point in time, they will remember the selfless leader who gave back Malaysia to Malaysians.

Tun,
ReplyDeleteMalaysia sekarang didalam keadaan merundum. Negara kita tidak stabil dan kucar kacir. Negara-negara asing seperti Singapura mengambil kesempatan di atas kelemahan kita.
Tun,
Lihatlah MB Perak, MB Selangor, Anwar Ibrahim.

Talib.
leher,Insya' allah hilang dahaga.
3) Jika sering sakit mata, seperti berair, gatal, bengkak, sapukan air
ketika menunaikan solat.
7) Jika orang teraniaya dan terpenjara membacanya sebanyak 71x, Allah s.w.t. akan memberikan bantuan kepadanya kerana dia tidak bersalah tetapi dizalimi.
Perkara yg baik kita amalkan slalu.Sebar2kan kepada kekawan, terima kasih.
salam hormat.
Salam Tun
Your are the best Tun!
ReplyDeleteTun,
ReplyDeleteYou are a pragmatist and machiavelian strategist. You look to the ends before you begin your journey, and all roads are fair as long as they arrive at their single intended desitination.
You intended Malaysia to be a developed nation by 2020, and you put lots of roads towards it. The only stuff lacking is the so-called proper democratic institutions, rule of law been one. But whose interpretation of the rule? You have for 22 years interpret what is that rule.
Today no one else could grasp that easily what is meant by such interpretation of the said rule. I suggest your Perdana Leadership Foundation conduct such a seminar to expound that vis a vis the western falacies of such interpretation.

An interesting post Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. I am pursuing deeper into this now. As I prefer to understand more. It is natural in Malaysia, when Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says or write on a point, interested individuals pursue to study deeper into layers of information resulting from what Dr Mahathir Mohamad has said and written. A point I see here, that we already have a system so nice in achieving the Truth. If any component of the system is not functioning properly, then the Truth cannot be achieved. For example, the setting up of a Commission by itself, is a question mark to the system in operation. When the system is in order, surely the setting up of a Commission is not necessary. Again, after a Commission has been set up, the buck is then passed back into the system, and there are instances, there are no proper action taken, and we are back to where we were before. Perhaps, more commenters who practices can contribute here, and I too can learn The Rule Of Law mentioned by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in this post.
ReplyDeleteakum tun,
ReplyDeleteplz write in your blog how pak lah lobbied u for prime minister post. let people judge the lobby is against the law or not.

ReplyDeleteAn observation - I see to about 30 comments, you receive one negative comment against you or your views. To the average person, that may seem you attract more positives than negatives. However, I know you receive an equal share of negative against your views (if not more). Now you've recently stated that it's in your right to voice your concern, then why is it you cannot publish all those criticisms against you? Are you afraid to show your website visitors exactly what Malaysians at large think about you?
2/ Re. your article under rule of law - firstly let me state that the phrase "Rule of Law" has become meaningless thanks to ideological abuse and general over-use. And in your case, you have been the biggest hypocrite as Under your leadership, you did not practise one of the basic principles of human legal rights - All individuals are given the same rights without distinction to their social stature, religion, political opinions. What have you got to state at this argument sir?
-Ravi
P.S -if you don't publish this comment, I understand. And that is you expect freedom of speech when it comes to your views, but not of others!

Tun,
ReplyDeleteAAB launched his WarkahUntukPM with great pom, pom, pom.
But wat is the point when I made a few complaints there in August 2007 but till now there is not even a reply except the coordinator of that website had informed the relevant department to handle my case.
Just imagine AAB's word. I will hear you out.......wat a disgrace in having this WarkahUntukPM when not even a word from AAB was forthcoming.
Kudus to the Malaysian PM for saying directly to me that he is talking the talk.
To others who may disagree,
ReplyDeleteOne has to look at the other failing or struggling democracies to get hold of their own senses and perspective. Take a look at Singapore, Indonesia, India, Iraq, Iran, Russia, UK and even USA.
Been democratic is not the holy grail end of the political road. It is but a continous search for correct leadership and political will.
Mahathir has done that in spite of all the conditions and situations. He has proven to be a galactic achiever of the highest order. Do not take my word for it. Go and do your own research. Yes, he was draconian, authoritarian, and despicable. But isn't Lee Kuan Yew even worse? Say a few words as a registered opposition party in Singapore and they sue your pants away for defamation. Google for those youtubes by singapore opposition leaders. It is despicable and attrocious.
How about Tony Blair and George Bush? Aren't they the pinacles of democratic freedoms? Didn't such nations drop atomic bombs on innocent masses and napalm villagers into oblivion? Didn't their institutions planned and executed covert operations to remove other popular leaders that disagree with some of their hidden agendas? What about the subjugation of the right to nuclear arms? Only they can but we cannot.
What about the right to better and fairer IMF aid, WTO, Kyoto, Rio and many protocols that superpowers refuse to endorse if it hurt their pockets? It is a political jungle out there. For Mahathir to have stirred us through the wilderness and darkness where we were truly at others mercy, we have to pray thank God and thank Him for such a saviour.
Hurting accusations were hurled at him but he kept busy thinking and resolving the big ship and the big vision ahead. He was the master Sun Tze that remove any noise that distracts, be it from friendly or enemy fire. He is a legend unequal of a long time. He awaited for the right time to step down. And duly when that time arrived he certainly did.
Mahathir was not what many put him out to be. I remembered even how Dollah Ahmad kept saying even in main stream media while he was still PM that Mahathir shall KSM - kerja sampai mati. I remembered reading that was repeated twice. Now, when he stepped down, Mahathir did not even made a fuss and even accepted Dollah Ahmad's invitation to launch his book!
Then you find this Mahathir trying his hand at a bakery in a jv with a japanese. He minds the cash tiller. Zainuddin Zam was in the line and Mahathir gave him VIP treatment. Even among both of them knew that one is no longer PM and the other is still in cabinet, there was no flinching nor ill brooding. His body language speaks volumes of his heart and past conscience. He knows what he and the nation has gone through his 22 years.
A true, sincere person will not go around bragging or bickering about all he has done or undone. He leaves to others to judge wisely or badly. His time is spent going straight to the real challenge and to the biggest pain. I think some of you have to listen and ask yourself within yourself this,
"What have you done that is good enough to be taken into account in the hereafter?"
Do not blame all evil on another singular person. We are to be blamed too if we now spend our time thinking of ways to avoid our tasks at hand in not taking advantage of the achievements of today. A PM has his job, and we do ours too.
The issue at hand is that the present PM has a big problem. All effort to address that problem is welcome.
And by the way, i was also detained a few times too while fighting for public interest during Mahathir's time.
And today i am still fighting and i do not hide behind any anonymous pseudonym.

we're all behind you Sir. :) even when we're not in Malaysia!
ReplyDeleteOld Fart have enlighten us on Tun racial remarks also thanks to Harris article.
ReplyDeleteHindraft demands are more towards Indians whereby they accused the Goverment for marginalising them. It true wasnt it. We have marginalised them. We make one of them a billionair, many of them are lawyers, doctors, engineers and professionals. many of them hold high positions and the goverment marginalised them or they marguinalised themselves?. They should ask themselves what have these sucessful billionairs, laywers, professional who made it under BN rules did for their community.? The billionairs can easily upgrade the lives of those people that they claim were marginalised. Is Hindarft demands made for Malaysian or indian? Look at the Selangor BABI issues, who benefits form it?. Chinese and those eating pork will benefit. Are this BABIS will benefits Malaysian as a whole? Malays, what are their demands? Hmm.. let me thinks..errr.. let me think... let me thinks.... They demand others to acknowledge them as 'ketuanan Melayu' because that the only thing they have, while the rest is gone. Real fact, they wont be Bangsa Malaysia as long as all races keep demanding base on racial needs rather than Malaysian. Look around, we still have Sekolah Tamil, Sekolah Cina and many more. No races will be bold enough to drop all this and adopt a Bangsa Malaysia for Malaysia as evidence in the sekolah Wawasan concept.Toward 2020we still be Malay, Indian Chinese, Kadazan etc. It doenst matter as long as we all live in harmony and respect each other.
I do agree an independent investigation committees should be setup whenever there is a big issue (e.g, Lingam's case) to look into. However, i believe this measure is only REACTIVE. We cannot just react to the issues. This will not help Malaysia to progress to another level. We need to look at the root cause.
ReplyDeleteWe need more preventive measures to be setup to ensure adequate law enforcements are imposed on the government and ensure that the ministers have not misused their rights to certain extend.
Although human beings are not easy to be managed (ministers are also human being), i believe, to certain extend, certain departments should be made independent from the government, e.g police and ACA.
Reasons are pretty simple - How can police performs the investigation / law enforcement on the governments, if they are also reporting to the government? (Principle of segregation of duties)
"malaysia, without you, is nothing."
ReplyDeletei'm not a malaysian but i have gotten to know a lot of malasyians in the past 3 years i've been staying here and all of them said the same exact thing (both directly & indirectly). they tell me such inspiring stories of yourself and how you are the cause of when malaysia stands at its best.
for that, sir, i respect you very very much and i can see the darker side of the current UMNO growing more than ever. if there's a way to stop it, it'd hopefully be done by your hands. in my opinion, the malaysians are in desperate need of you for your face represents them and that THEY listen to you. and for that too, i support you.

The only reason i want to listen & read the issue because i care for Tun..He is one of the most influence person in the world..keep writing the truth Tun..
ReplyDeleteCan't blame the current PM for not having a vision like Tun, cause we know he is not capable so.
ReplyDeleteBut the least he could do is to utilize his senses - the ears to listen, the brain to apprehend and the heart to feel. Only then he could do what is best for his people.
Is this too much that we asked for?
Assalamualaikum Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, I dont think that there is any other leader who is more calibre than you to rule Malaysia and protect the Malay rights:) thumbs up to you Tun, support you all the way.

I agree with Redhuan that you are not perfect but I believe that you have acted accordingly to the best of your ability believing that that is best for Malaysia.
